The poor economy has led to 16 people being laid off this week in Alger County . According to a spokesperson at Timber Products in Munising, 16 people were laid off Tuesday.

"According to a spokesperson at Timber Products in Munising...this has nothing to do with the ongoing labor situation at the plant. He cited slowing sales...Meanwhile, the contract issue is still not resolved. It expired in April...At issue are wages and the pension."

Slowing sales, eh?
Must be the reason their Medford, OR plant just ADDED a third production shift!

But, they are shutting down their White City, Oregon plant. Their last day is Nov 25th.
