Shame shame for forcing these MRE's on our students. Chemicals, preservatives, processed foods. I have heard dozens of young students complain - one found a bug in his lunch. My family will pack from now on. Shame shame.

That's for sure. What a horrible way to cut spending, by forcing children to eat these nasty meals. When we become parents, we educate ourselves on healthy meals for our children. We teach our children healthy ways of eating. Then they go to school and eat chemicals. My kids will never eat another. We are on a tight budget but we'll find a way to pack lunches of healthy food. Whose idea was this anyway?

We hate the lunches. The few times my 7th grader and 3rd grader ate at school the food was cold! I'm not paying $2.50 for cold nasty food for my children. We will pack lunches for now on. Carrollton is sure going down hill. Time to move to a better school system!!!!

My son bought one lunch. It was still frozen. I'll never purchase another.

I pack my kids lunches everyday - I just can't see paying 2.35 per day per kid (141.00 a month) for a fozen meal -when I can go to the store spend that and feed them for a month and an half and have better things to eat. What I don't understand is if there are other scools in trouble why they have choosen not to serve the mres

That's unhealthy.

Healthy food promotes healthy brain activity. Carrollton obviously doesn't care about health, which makes me concerned about their care for education and the well-being of the children all together.

You are right jimmy, healthy food promotes healthy mind. Recently I heard that C-ton is in an academic emergency by the state. That its students scored low on tests. Which having recently graduated, i know that most of the teachers are about ready to retire, so what do they care?

Good job to Julia and Cindy (above). No decision makers will even consider the viewpoints of the parents and children unless there is no one buying those inadequate meals. Administration clearly made their decision based on the profitability margin and were bold enough to state that to the press. The sad part is the majority amount students that qualify for reduced or free lunches within this district and the supplement comes from the state. That was the business factor involved not the students' health and well-being.
Next, hats off to Jimmy and "poor foods poor grades", for you comments. Another pertinent factor is the very low moral of the teachers. There is an "Eyeore" type cloud over this district and the teachers are giving up hope and losing sight of their motivations. Why? Because the same leadership that is carelessly feeding our kids crap have been treating teachers like that longer. Could you imagine working for a set of superiors who accept no real input from those who are hands-on every day? How about not understanding that their own decisions are ruining their business and those at the bottom of the ladder are viewed as merely replicable? Now they are witnessing again how expendable people are considered.(Bus Driver) My last thought is that every voting person in this school district needs to know what it means to be "EXEMPTED", according to the Ohio Revised Code.“The use of the term "exempted" refers to their exemption from the supervision of the county board of education. According to law, no exempted village school district shall be created after June 1, 1954.” To be specific.“The local school district so exempted from the supervision of the educational service center governing board shall be known as an “exempted village school district” until its status as an exempted village school district has been changed.” While I would immensely like to blame our school board of negligence in decision making, it is ultimately up to those they have hired. http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/3311.04 http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/3311.08 http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/3311.08 |

One more observation, in response to two respectable blogs from June 2009 and following my comments on how exempted school districts function. Please read copies below. Mrs. Fogler was not able to get Preferred Meals into Strasburg schools because they are a local school district, which means they are under the supervision of the school board. Please read this Ohio Schools web site for definitions of both. http://sunshinereview.org/index.php/Ohio_scho...
“Hey Mrs. Fogler, I heard that you tried to get the Preferred Meals to go in Strasburg. Why didn't they do it if they are so great. I think that maybe their school board is a bit smarter than ours!!!”(Carroll County Resident, http://www.topix.net/forum/source/carrollton-... ) “There is a solution that could be made where everyone will benefit (if the school board would quit listening to the Administrator and start listening to fair and reasonable solutions).”(Carroll County Taxpayer - http://www.topix.net/forum/source/carrollton-... ) |
