That would be "You're either an American with good grammar, or you're an American with bad grammar."

It took Easton THIRTY YEARS to get a town gazebo (the $$ was sitting in an account the whole time). It opens on Sunday!

Look, it was a loss not only for Easton but for the whole country, still that doesn't mean a "mandatory" memorial. Through out history there have been many disasters where people have perished and we can't simply "demand" a memorial for everyone.........why stop with 911, how about the Holocaust, Titanic, Hidenburg, Jonestown, Draft Riots, Tsunami Floods of 2004, wars etc and the list goes on. Instead of "demanding" the town supply one with tax payer dollars, how about a private fundraiser? How about setting up a scholarship for the Hanson daughter? There is a lot a private citizen can do, so get busy Mr. Curtis, if these people were friends of YOURS, YOU can do the RIGHT THING without demanding someone else do it for you!

Dear Ryan,

No one is "demanding" this memorial. The town of Easton's First Selectmen formed a committee (with full support of town officials) to initiate this process two years ago. The memorial will be built with town funds and also with private donations. At issue here is simply the location, not the financing. I have no concern that we will find the money that we need. And I personally wish we could have a memorial for every awful tragedy that has robbed people of their loved ones. It's nice to remember the good people that have touched our lives. There's a lot of hatred in this world and your mean-spirited attitude is a perfect example of that.

This town has NO money for anything. Literally.

Do we have money to make a memorial for, rest their souls, three people who did not reside in this state? Two of whom had never lived here?

I beg to differ with you...from article~
Jason Curtis wanted to take time Friday to remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. He'd grown up with Peter Hanson, an Easton native who perished with his wife and daughter on one of the planes that was flown by terrorists into the World Trade Center.
FYI-the Hanson family had donated money to a build a structure in Beardsely Park with a Butterfly theme in memory of their Sln Peter's daughter their grandaughter lost in that tragedy. There is a Butterfly on top of that pavillion and butterfly pictures..as she loved butterflies....The Hanson family still has ties to CT.
God Bless the Hansons souls and and the souls of all lost in this tragedy. Please be kind to one another life is precious and too short.

Dear But,
These are tough times and the people interested in seeing this project completed are very sensitive to that. Again, I stress, the issue here is location and not finances. There is a large community of people willing to find and procure funding, donations of materials and labor to help the project along in any way. This is a national issue and one that people feel very strongly about. We are not memorializing three people, we are paying tribute to over 3000 people and their loved ones and remembering a terrorist attack on our national soil. It was the most significant event in many of our lives and one that our children will learn about in their textbooks. I think that's worthy of some recognition, don't you? We'll cross the money bridge when we come to it. No one wants to pull funds from the wrong places. Community spirit will get it done. We hope it will be a modern day barn raising. Isn't that why we live in a small town - so that we can work together to do good things and lean on our neighbors when we need help standing?

I agree and understand and commend the efforts involved. I had a problem with the posting by someone that the Hansons had no roots or ties to Easton which was untrue. Please with that in mind re read my comment as I quoted the article plus I had added facts & what I know about that fine family and their pain, loss & generosity. You have to admit Easton is a far from average Middle class community but during these tough economic times everyone of every economic level is getting hit hard. That is why I say let us all be kind considerate to eachother and post in a more compassionate manner. Prayers and respect for all lost during 911 and their families is not much to ask is it?

Please don't blame the Easton residents and Town government. After all, it's enough that they've allowed homes to be electrified and, yes, even allowed the populace to have telephone service! There was much ado about the intrusion of such modern conveniences upon the farming character of the Town at many a recent P&Z meeting all throughout the twentieth century. Much consideration has been paid concerning the breach of peace and quiet upon the countryside from new-fangled contraptions such as, lets say, steam-powered tractors, when a hand-shovel will quietly and efficiently do the trick to move the manure from barn to corn field. And the Gazebo proves that they've taken long strides toward modernity. I foresee in the not-too-distant future that the Town Board of Education will even allow their pupils to bring electronic calculators to their one-room schoolhouse!!!
Look, you can't expect much more from people who've been home-schooled by chimps, can you?

I think it's very, very sad to read some of these posts.

There were so many people at the memorial service for Peter, Sue and little Christine. More than the church could accommodate. The people who stood outside, who most could not hear the service, held hands while we sang "The Barney Song", Christine's favorite song. It was wonderful to see so many people come together, united.

My point is that people gathered to mourn. They mourned not just for this family but, for the people who died in the planes, the towers, the Pentagon. I mean, 3,000 INNOCENT people died. Does anyone remember that?!?! From what I know, this memorial would pay tribute to all of the people who died that day. It's not about 3 people, it's about 3,000. It's about remembering 911.

Maybe the town of Easton needs it to be reminded of what a community does when it's nation is hit with such a loss?

Shame on Easton. I used to be proud of this town but, I now don't want to be associated with such a classless mess.

Phyllis,

Where did someone say that they had "no roots or ties to Easton?" I said that they did not live in this state, and two of them never had, but you couldn't be paraphrasing that.

Just so we Eastonites don't seem too callous, there was also a lovely display of flags on the Easton Fireman's Green on 9/11, just like every anniversary. And it was very poignant, and people were moved by it.

I owe you an apology as I misunderstood your post. I have never perceived Eastonites to of callous nature. That, which you have described, was a nice gesture. I appreciate your posting with the kindness you & Easton obviously possess~Thank you TGP

You may have an absurd opinion but you sure can't read. The Hanson daughter is DEAD. She was on the flight with her parents who both perished when the second plane hit the tower. We only wish we could fund raise for a scholarship. No one is DEMANING a memorial. The town established the memorial committee and has sanctioned it! So next time you shoot off in one of these blogs, please get your facts straight!

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Leo

The atmosphere is highly combustible today, with people getting in a stew over the smallest little thing. You will also have a tendency to get hot under the collar, especially if someone isn't doing things as quickly as you'd like. Try to stop yourself getting in a rage because once that happens it will be difficult to cool down again. Maybe you need some fresh air?
