The Delton school board wouldn't dare outsource the custodial jobs. Most of these positions are held by long time local people. these folks are backed by the community and the school board would be handing themselves a pink slip if they went through with it. As Grace said in the interview, why would Delton want to send the jobs out of town? To many of the local towns are outsourcing to larger compainies. Pennock Hospital is now outsourcing there grounds maintenance to a large Grand Rapids company. This only puts local funds into other areas. With the economy on thin ice, communities need to do everything possible to keep local people and business alive.

the board of ed won't change its mind no matter who much protesting or comments against it are made at the next meeting.
Holland went through this about five years ago and the board of ed still unanimously opted to can the custodial staff despite 3 hours of comments all against the outsourcing. |

1 The custodians don't need to take a pay cut...if the HOT shots (Administration)would take a pay cut and think about other people other than themselves within Delton the custodians wouldn't have to worry. The administration people at Delton make way more money-the custodians make only 1/3 of what the hot shots do. |

1 How many kids have been molested/abused by union teachers? Hint: many more than by priests. |

1 How about every body take a pay cut or at least a freeze? It isn't right in this economy to think you're immune to what's going on - especially when you're job is supported by the backs of the taxpayers. I would certainly hope that the custodians make 1/3 (it's that much?!?!) as much as the administration! Oh, and who does the union used to clean it's headquarters? It's time to start living in the real world and stop demanding that the taxpayers continue to fund your fantasies. |

1 Here is what you get: 1. A building that is not has clean...Why??? Most custodians are former students of the district they work in, live in the district where they work, or have children that attend/did attend the district...There is a connection which fosters a sense of pride...When the company was hired it became a "job"... 2. There is, at times, a different person in my room cleaning once school is finished...There have been "issues" with things in our classrooms "disappearing", but I'm not willing to say that this is a "norm"... 3. There has been a lot of money saved (hourly wages, benefits, overtime pay, etc.), but at the cost of a few things: - Personal relationships - A clean workplace - Attention to detail I know that our school board has now started to discuss ending the contract with the cleaning company and going back to hiring their own employees to do the cleaning in our district... So, in the end, districts look at it from a cost savings measure, but there is more to it than saving a few dollars... |
