Harley needs to stop pulling the strings like this town is a puppet! Get in the game or get out! And for the Union, it's a crisis now that EVERYONE'S job is in jeopardy not just those with lower seniority that have already been affected.

"Harley said in May it was considering moving the operations elsewhere in the United States because they were not cost-effective as currently structured."

In NOT PC terms ... "We cant work with this union anymore ... they are NOT flexible and they keep demanding more and more ... we'll go elsewhere thank you very much"

More meaningless "off the cuff" remarks from people who have nothing better to do than complain about something that wouldn't affect them, no matter which way a decision goes.

Sounds to me like you are saying York county workers have no class....that includes you doesn't it? I'm against unions too but I don't want the plant to close. it's going to kill the local economy beyond what most people can imagine.

Sounds like something we agree on, Bill.

I see it this way. If people in the area make enough of these off the cuff comments, word will soon get around that York residents are an ungrateful bunch toward any business if there is something they don't like about them. Even if they aren't personally harmed by the business practice.

It comes down to image. What business would want to move into a "hostile" territory like that?

I'm not a fan of unions. They sereved a purpose at one time...but thats only my opinion. If keeping the plant here means keeping the union then I'm all for the union, Without HD the city is in for a hurting. Alot of these folks don't see it, but they will come tax time. And you are right about the off of the cuff coments. I'm sure there are other companies following whats going on with HD. Perhaps from the standpoint of moving into York, moving out of York or how HD manages with the union...but they are seeing the comments as well.

You are so right Ring. The decision was made a
long time ago. They are just trying to gain the
greatest offers they can from the place where they already decided on. Corporations do not operate on
spur of the moment decision making as this is made
to look. If the decision has been made to stay in York there will be some disappointed anti-union
folks around.Even those who couldn't get a job
there or the ones jealous of well paid workers.
What kind of idiots would be elated over anyone losing there jobs. Answer- idiots who couldn't
get hired in those jobs. If one is anti-union for
a reason you don't go to those places for a job.
You work for companies who pay you as they see fit.
Simple right? Not for some jealous Bozo's.

Huh? Not sure what the heck point you are trying to make there! But for what its worth, I'm not a union fan and make it my point to not work at union shops or even apply to them. Having said that, I'm all for keeping the plant in York and the folks that work there keeping their jobs....just without the union bleeding the company and its members dry....

I wonder if Harley's execs sit around at the end of the day, sipping martinis and laughing their asses off at the people of York County who think that there is a chance that Harley will stay?

I wonder if Spring Hill, TN might jump into the foray. Seems the Saturn plant will be closing (todays news), skilled workers and infrastructure in place. Seems viable to me.

Corporate welfare is what they're looking for. Free land, building, no taxes, $12hr assemblers and outsource everything they can. They'll only move to Kentucky for as long as the tax breaks last and then they'll start looking for their next meal ticket. What they don't care about is the motorcycles themselves. A couple of years from now after Wandell has headed down the road with his stock options that will be someone elses problem. If you want something done right you have to do it yourself, not outsource it. Cheaper isn't always better, especially when you're talking about something people live and breathe like a Harley.

Is York going to lose another company as they did with Caterpillar because Union folks are too stubborn to realize a job, even with less pay, is better than no job? Negotiate and save this company's presence for York and Yorkers.

You're a little late to the conversation. The union and Harley have been negotiating for a while. They still are negotiating. However, here is the important part which people are too stupid or lazy to comprehend:

"None of us outsiders have any idea what they are discussing or where the negotiations currently stand"

Calling the union stubborn at this point is pure conjecture and opinionated. If I were to employ your same line of thinking, I would say you are just as stubborn for not considering other viewpoints.

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Aquarius

Try to avoid arguments with your family and friends. You will be less than satisfied with the way things are around you. Keep the peace with your parents. If you are working, the pressure will be on, but after hours the mood really improves! Relax and get enough rest. This will revitalize your energies and let you take advantage of your strokes of genius.
