Underage Sex: Oostburg teen charged with felony for having sex ...

Are we kidding...We have people being murdered and robbed every day and this police dept is worried about a couple teenagers....What a joke....and a waste of time and money....All the cop had to do was send them home....Noooooooooooooo he wanted to be a "hero".....Good job mr officer....YOur A+ in my book

I completely agree. I cant believe that this counts as "news." I think Fox should be ashamed for reporting this story especially since they could probably ask around the news room and find that when they were 15 & 17 years old that they were doing the same thing.

Also, why is it that they can show this kids face and tell us his name if he is a minor?

I may not be alone in this, but I think that the words SEX OFFENDER mean less and less these days since they seem to slap the title on anyone.

I think it is wrong for them to charge this young man with a felony for having sex with the young girl. I believe if you are going to make charges it should be on both of them because she knew just as well as he did what they were doing and that they had no business doing it. I think that premartial sex is not okay for teens and that once they incorporate that into a relationship it brings up more problems, that not only affect them but people around them as well. Most of them do not look at the long term affect of what they are doing. I think if we as parents educate our kids more about the subject and stop being afraid to talk to them we could help them to understand why they should wait. We need to make them understand the severity of the actions and all the possibilites they could face whether it be pregnancy, stds, and the emotional scars as well. So we need to step up and take more inative in educating them on this subject and we would eliminate alot of our issues with this and our kids.

How incredibally stupid, wasteful, unnecessary!!!! WHO CARES!!! Kids have been foolin around in back seats since there were back seats. For crying out loud, its a miracle I didn't get arrested at 15/16!! Some parents may "poo-poo" this idea, but kids are gonna mess around, it's almost a rite of passage. I don't encourage it but it's dangerous to think it DOESN'T happen. With all the crapola happening out there really? REALLY? We really need to prosecute this kid? What it cost to take him to court could have fed a family, bought pencils for the courthouse, fixed a pothole. What a waste of time and money. Stupid, dumb, ridiculous waste.What example did this teach? Not don't have sex, just don't get caught.

In wisconsin, anytime something like this is brought to police attention, it is investigated and documented. This is to protect both people involved. What if the girl recants later and says she was raped or he gave her alcohol. The case was investigated as it should be.
The police investigate the case and then bring it to the DA's office for them to review. The police do that to CYA, they let the prosecutors decide if a charge should be issued or not be issued.
He did commit a felony, so it needs to be reviewed by the DA's office. If the boy in this is under 18, the girl should be referred to the childrens justice system as well. If he is 17, she commited a misdemeanor, if he is 16 it was a felony.
It is the District Attorneys office that issues the charges, not the police, that is in ANY criminal case. It was the DA or an ADA that decided that this poor kid should be charged with a felony and make him a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.
I highly doubt that he will serve any time, it will end up being probation.
I do know that something like this in Milwaukee County would never be issued by the DA's office.

This is the dumbest law I have ever heard. I have a teenage daughter. She is old enough to make that decision. Hopefully, she would choose not to engage in sex; but if she did and was willing I hope she uses protection. To brand a teenager for "life" as a "sex offender" under those circumstances is foolish. You would ruin his/her life. The law needs to be rewritten in regards to teenagers. I think if there is only a two year (maybe three year) difference in age, there should be no penalty. My daughter is 16. If the boy was 17 -18, I would not have a problem with it. 19 is questionable and 20 is a whole different game. Common sense is needed!!

It's crazy that the DA is wasting taxpayer $$ and time on something like this, not to mention the destruction he's causing these poor teen-agers. My god, are hormones different now than they've been for the last 2000+ years? Sadly the law says a 15 year old or almost 16 year old does not have the right to say yes to sex.

It is no longer a case of protecting our daughters but our sons. Know of the same thing for one young 18 year old male who had sex with 15 1/2 year old girl (she was very willing) of course she when she was late the following month she took home test and left it where mom found it. Mom is the one who now is crying rape.

So moms protect your sons - the law aready protects girls not the young men.

when 2 kids decide to have sex, they are both consenting regardless of their age. charging a 17 year old with a felony for having sex with his 15 year old girlfriend is pathetic. both sets of parents knew they were dating so let the girl's parents decide to press charges if they want. the Sheboygan DA is a moron who has nothing better to do than to waste my tax dollars on something that should not be a crime. He was not over 18, he did not force her against her will, and she is not claiming rape, so leave it alone. Half the kids in high school are guilty of this same charge so do you plan on putting all these kids in jail?

The police and DA worry about two minors doing what minors do, and have always done. Yet it is okay for the City of Milwaukee Chief of Police to have extra marital affairs and the DAs do nothing? As others have mentioned the Police (and DA) should be worrying about more concerning matters (like proper policing of their own ranks) then harrasing and ruining the lives of teenager(s). My wife is four years older then I and it is scary to think if we had met when I was under 18 she could have been charged! Utterly rediculous. There should be an age difference law instead of a hard set age of 18.

Maybe everyone should be thanking FOX 6 because they brought this waste of taxpayer money to everyone's attention. If the news doesn't report it how would we all know about this injustice.

If the person is under age you should not engage in sex. Sadly the boy will pay the price by being registered as a sex offender. I agree this girl did choose to engage in this. I believe she should be held accountable for something too. They need to place a diffrent law for teenagers. Not so strict. It was a choice they both chose and at 15-16 you have the right say no or yes!!! Government does not own our minds or body!!!!

So if they both consented to it, i cant figure out why just the guy is getting in trouble....Either they both get charged with something or neither of them...How can you single out one person..Thats what makes this world so phucked up
