Alaska is top rated for suicides. I am very upset to know that a Police Department made an increase to the percentage.
Does someone have to make suicidal statements or look depressed in order to get their best supervision? I mean, all inmates are in for a reason, but just because they have done something wrong doesn't mean that they shouldn't be watched closely. I thought they were there to protect and serve? Is it just for the community, but not for one person alone? I believe you should protect and serve all. I believe that they didn't do a good job supervising an inmate. People will now have fears of being in that cell or any other cell knowing that people who WERE supposed to protect and serve, has failed their duty in some way. Because of this, I have lost someone who I dearly loved. Somebody whom he would always keep in touch with. Because of that department I know longer hear from him. |

willie was my boyfriend, and it's hard to know that he died in jail when there were so many people downstairs at the time of his death. Something is just not right with the situation.

Just think that who ever was working downstairs at the time should have went and checked on him. Now that's what do, check on them every fifteen minutes nowadays since willie had killed himself in jail. He didn't even meet his youngest son, cause his girlfriend was still pregnant with him. To top that his girlfriend, Alma had found him. May you rest in peace Willie Jordan Katchatag!

Alma is right about that situation. If anyone cared about willie being in the cell would have went and checked on him. Instead of having his one and last girlfriend find him. |

I was living here in Arizona at the time of my cousin's death. I was shocked and upset to find the news of his death in a cell.
I was once a police officer in Unalakleet and to have prisoners we would check on them every fifteen minutes. I wonder why we don't do that anymore. I have a cousin on the force now I think that we should stick it out because, he is courageous. I love willie till this day, I pray for his family and pray for those who are in distress so that suicide will come to a halt. |
