Unbelievable....the SPD announces they are conducting sobriety checkpoints? When did the keystone cops take over? Why not just come out with "Attention all drunks...we are conducting sobriety tests." Guess they don't want to catch any.

On the Seymour DUI checks I noticed that they do them a lot in Seymour, Oxford, Beacon Falls, Southbury I am constantly driving in Bridgeport and they never do seatbelt checks or Sobriety checks there, is it because in Bridgeport they are afraid of what they will find or is it only done in other towns because all they'll have to do is right one ticket.Don't ya think if Bridgeport did this yhey'd get the guns, drugs, unregistered cars and wanted criminals off the street, Wake up Bridgeport cops!

What a waste of money! The hours are ridiculous for a checkpoint and they are announcing it ahead of time.

The SS would conduct these types of checkpoints as well. Stopping Americans without probable cause is unconstitutional. I can see checkpoints becoming a regular process in CT just as some states have actually begun to use Military Police to assist in these checkpoints which is on the record as fact.

But if you know your rights, you should be ok.

Just a thought. Maybe because the police in Bridgeport actual knew what swearing to defend the constitution actually meant.

BTW these check points are brought to you by federal funding. And yes, I'm pretty sure they are getting paid over time.

ACLU fought with lawmakers in CT for years and won. When a town or CT state police do a DUI check point a warning MUST be published with media outlets several days before the actual date. Nice job ACLU, thanks for protecting us when we go out and drive drunk.

Although I don't agree with what some of the ACLU does, in this case they made a small attempt to defend the 4th Amendment. It protects the rights of Americans who want to have their rights protected. If you aren't clear of what those rights are or why they should be protected then maybe you can summon one of the dead veterans who gave his life to ensure that these rights are not infringed upon.

To help clarify a few things. In the case of Michigan vs. Stits, the Supreme Court did rule that Sobriety Checkpoints were in fact UnConstitutional. Although it was later overturned, Justice Renquist did declare that it was in fact UnConstitutional:

Chief Justice Rehnquist began his majority opinion by admitting that DUI sobriety checkpoints do, in fact, constitute a "seizure" within the language of the Fourth Amendment. In other words, yes, it appears to be a blatant violation of the Constitution. However, he continued, it's only a little one, and something has to be done about the "carnage" on the highways caused by drunk drivers. The "minimal intrusion on individual liberties," Rehnquist wrote, must be "weighed" against the need for -- and effectiveness of -- DUI roadblocks. In other words, the ends justify the means.

There is no such thing as a "Little" violation of the 4th. Can you imagine telling troops to fight wars based on, "You might be fighting a war to protect a little freedom or freedom deemed with excpetion?

Ah, the "Liberal" accusation. It would be considered that the founding fathers were liberals and very good at being liberals. Please don't take this the wrong way, but as a matter of fact, the only reason that you can comment the way that you previously did is because of brave liberals.

Ultimately there has been so much disinformation out there that liberals actually means a bad thing. Well, liberal is actually a good thing, its that some of the people who are dubbed liberals or represent liberals are completely out of the minds.

AND!!! Since the Supreme Court will blatantly ALLOW & uphold practices that violation the Constitution, it is up to the State to protect it's citizens, which by the way Connecticut rarely does.
