Target opens at mall in city

The real question is how long they will STAY in Baltimore City once the shoplifting begins (resumes?) at the new location.

Does anyone find it ironic that General Growth Properties, a multi-billion dollar company, received $15 million in tax "incentives", while the residents of the city pay property tax at more than twice the county rate?

When are the people who live here going to receive "incentives"?

..Another "TARGET"....just that....McDonalds, 7-11, Burger king, major beer/liquor distributors, Esskay, Parks sausage all tried and moved out due to "unseen hands" taking the profits..........and this "TARGET" will follow.......within 5 years.

Why is it that Baltimore's decidedly disgusting retail scene seems bent on reproducing the same sort of cancerous big box store all over the region? Target, Walmart, AJ Wright, and other trashy retailers ought to be run out of town. The retail market in Baltimore seems monotone without hardly a single luxury shop to be found. Baltimore is the only region in the Northeast to not have a Polo Ralph Lauren shop or a Tiffany & Co. store. Boston, Philadelphia, DC, and New York all have at least one of each. Mayor Dixon: If you want to make a difference, make a more diverse retail scene that appeals different segments of the market. Not everyone want's to dig through clearance bins in bargain basements.

Apparently you don't understand the machinery of poverty or prosperity. Getting a major retailer in that area is major boot to the local economy. Jobs for people in that neighborhood especially the young folks. This is what a mayor should be doing. Bringing business into the city.
Thats all Willie Don did and most of those Bussiness dollars went to the Harbor. At least Dixon got $$$ somewhere besides the Harbor.

The problems affecting the school system are really out of any Mayors scope these days. Improving the economy can help somewhat but our inner schools will suck as long as we keep the current War on Drugs policy in effect.

People have needs. Maslow's hierarchy of needs are 1. Physiological, 2.Safety, 3.Social, 4.Esteem. The [real] West Side provides none of these things. We are at mortal danger everytime we step outside - and sometimes even in our own homes (home invasions, stray bullets, lead poisoning, backed-up exploding sewer lines - you name it). The West Side is literally falling apart, and the Mayor is fixing the Gwynn Falls bike trail and bringing in a Target. Who in their right mind is going ride their bikes where criminals dump bodies, strangle & rape women, rob people, sell drugs in the open, and commit plain old homicide (11 murders so far in 21216 alone, and over 150 registered sex offenders!!!). What people the West side need is the National Guard, not cheap clothes and shampoo - those fall into the number four Esteem category. You just can't explain this to people who drive a Lexus yet still collect welfare and live like pigs - it wouldn't make sense.
