It sounds like the police did what they
could before shooting. |

Ya know, ya can't tell by looking at one of those weapons if it is loaded or not (if there is an empty magazine inserted). Did he actually live there? Was it his gun? Was it legal? Was he breaking the law by sitting outside at 2 a.m.? Why was the cop so sure he would get shot if he walked away? Lots of questions. Nice to know you can be shot dead on Indian land and no one has to answer them.

Stories are conflicting. Usually people who don't share all the facts are guilty of a cover up. Bringing up past records of drunk driving does not mean individuals are worthy of being shot in the back. Tribal cops are just as corrupt as those off the reservations. If the truth is not found out or revealed, the Creator knows and sees all things, they will still answer for the things they have done here on this earth. Maybe they will die the same type of death. No one knows what God will allow.

Stories about this incident are conflicting. Usually people who don't share all the facts are guilty of a cover up. Usually to save their own a***s. And, bringing up past records of drunk driving tickets does not mean individuals are worthy of being shot in the back. Tribal cops are just as corrupt as those off the reservations. If the truth is not found out or revealed by the Creator. Still, the Creator sees all things seen on this earth. You never know, maybe they will die the same type of death. I understand that the officer may have felt threatened however, only a coward would shoot someone in the back. Why is it necessary for officers to shoot to kill. Why can't they just injury the person unless there is a severe threat to them. I think in some cases an induvidual can be subdued withoout killing. It appears that after being tasered three times that he was either drunk to the point of no return or just flipped mentally. These people are calling out for help not to be killed.

How can anyone judge what exactly happened. Sounds like there was a struggle and usually when people are struggling they are not standing in one place. So how can anyone say how this guy got shot in the back?
I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t turn my back and walk away from a nut sitting on a porch at 2:00 a.m. with an assault rifle in his lap not knowing if it was loaded or un- loaded. Police officers deserve more credit than the press seems to give them. They see people at their worst on a daily basis. Would people prefer to see the headline changed to police Officer shot? |

How about some reality. This is a good police department with good management. They could patrol the streets of Bagdad better than what we have now.
The Captain's explanation is the truth and it is sad but necessary that Osceola was shot. The fact that he was shot in the back is not under the apparent facts inconsistent with the necessary use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer. |

They should have left him alone, he was wanting to get shot.

Oh go watch TV because that's the world your living in. "these people are calling out for help, not to be killed". Gimme a break. Hold the presses. Stop the investigation by the police and medical examiner because we have someone right here whose got this guys frame of mind all figured out just from a small Sun-Sentinel article? They guy may have been mentally unstable or even a drunk. In my book, that makes them even more dangerous. You don't seem to give a damn about the risk to the officers lives. Does everyone sit on their front porch with an AR-15? I can think of a scenario right off the bat. This guy is charging after officers with the knife and another officer was in position, and less risk to fire to protect the officers. This also isn't the world of Barnaby Jones that police officers are living in. They can't shot the tires out of a vehicle speeding past them at 60 MPH with a snubnose .38. The officers fire at the largest target. The torso. They shoot to stop, not to kill. In your TV world, they can easily shot the knife out of the suspects hand or wound them in the leg. That's why they call it the "boob tube". But it doesn't work that way in real life. But if you feel sorry for these people "reaching out for help", then feel free to take them into your home. Open up your bleeding heart to them. |

How can any of you idiots comment on an issue when presented with only limited facts at best? After reading everyone's comments it scares the crap out of me that such ignorance runs rampant. Even if the newspapers could get the records, they wouldn't have all of the facts, not that they would care, and present their liberal slant to them anyway. Why don't you all get a life.

It's amazing how the Seminole Police Department can get away with whatever they want because they are under "different laws." I have personally witnessed their actions numerous times out at the Hard Rock Hotel. They are allowed to get away with beating people up, throwing them in handcuffs, and if they find out they have nothing on that individual, they just say "Get out of here" and let the person leave. Just this past weekend, I watched them throw a man in handcuffs because they thought he was involved in a fight. They faceplanted him up against the glass at Murphy's Law and a third officer came and punched him in the back of the head. They took him around the back and found out he was a police officer. Ironically, this time, they let him go. They told him "You know how it is man." I know this because I asked the man what happened and what they said to him. The officer responded and said to me "It's not right what they do to people out here." The Seminole Police Department has cost numerous police officers from other agencies their jobs. They do the same thing to these officers and then they find out who they are and can't just let them go because they know they messed up by possibly injuring them or saying the wrong things to them. So they call their agencies and make false accusations against the officers to cover their actions. It's just not right what goes on. Something needs to be done because people are getting hurt and are going to jail for the wrong reasons. People are losing their livelihoods because of the Seminole Police Department. It's amazing how no news of any prior incidents have made headlines out there. I think if their police department was under closer surveillance by the media, things would be a little bit different. All the headlines about Hollywood Police Department lately, yet they did not hurt anybody but themselves.

I'm not sure we will ever really "know" all the facts of this incedent. It is sad and unfortunate all the way around. I do beleive the officers felt in danger for their lives. However, the use of deadly force in this confrontation is questionable at best. I know this family and a good number of Seminole Tribal members and they are agry at the SPD for using deadly force. Did Dennis Osceola ever raise this wepon in a threatening manner? I have not heard either way. It seems there could have been a better way than just shooting the guy. But then, I have to admit I wan't there and don't know all the fact. I do know his dad, and he is devistated that the SPD shot his son in the back. They have not done much to explain to him the reason why. You would think they could have at least done that much. I was also at his funeral and the presiding pastor prayed for the Seminole officers involved. Only two were on site, but they stayed along way from the people. In my opinion, the officers would not have had to use deadly force if they had taken the time to get acquainted with Dennis and other tribal members. I feel for all involved.

GET OVER YOURSELF, if any agency was closely monitored by the media you would hear more than you do now. |
