Who cares about the fireworks , as long as we can shoot our guns in the air, thats all I care about. And all you "Pry the gun off my dead fingers crowd" better support us on this during the big Cinco De Mayo celebrations. If you really are gun lovers. Otra Coors Otro Tiro.
If you put that gun real close to your ear when you pull the trigger you can hear the ocean....trust me.....just try it.......please.

Right and let's cancel St. Patrick's Day, since this is also America and not Ireland.

Why are we celebrating a Mexican holiday in the first place? This is the united States of America if anyone didn't know.
It is not a "Mexican holiday" more than St. Patrick's Day is an Irish one... It is more of a day when those of us of Mexican roots celebrate our culture. In fact, it is barely celebrated in Mexico, mostly in Puebla, where it all occurred.

The celebration of Cinco de Mayo is just another example of Mexicans grasping at straws--anything to be proud of.
The fact is this--the Mexican victory over the French at Puebla was a one-shot deal. The French returned, beat the boogey out of the Mexicans and occupied Mexico for three more years. The French finally signed an agreement and left Mexico DUE TO U.S. PRESSURE--NOT because of anything Mexicans did!
Mexico would be much better off of the French had remained in Mexico and made it a French colony--Today France is in the top 10 (according to the United Nations survey) of countries with a high standard of living. Mexico is a Third World cesspool that has a national psychosis when it comes to its history!
Right... become a French colony and prosper like Haiti, Vietnam, and most of North Africa did? Get a clue.

P.S. The French left because they were overwhelmed fighting in Europe and needed the soldiers over there.

No, it's not a Mexican holiday. It's origins are in Southern California, and it's purpose is to sell beer and gaudy decorations. It is virtually ignored in Mexico.

Hence, not a holiday in Mexico.

You got it backwards... Plus, had the French "won the war", Mexico would still be part of France today. Also, the Confederacy would have won the Civil War in the U.S., as Napoleon III supported the Confederacy and during that time, the Confederacy was routing the Union.

It's a holiday in Puebla, where the battle took place. In other places, it is just a minor holiday, but recent marketing efforts have bolstered it over there.

In that we show our true buying power that day kinda like Irish Americans do in St. Patty's... Man, you really need to get a grip.

Exactly. It's not a Mexican holiday (beyond the fact that some Mexicans celebrate it har har) because it isn't a federally sanctioned, national holiday.
