exactly, come here to lafayette/west lafayette and its the same thing. the cops in west lafayette and the purdue cops are always on some power trip superiority complex giving attitude out to everybody they stop, giving out bogus tickets, while they drive drunk themselves, which was in the news not long ago. these corrupt cops are a joke here. they set up seatbelt checkpoints and give tickets to pay their salaries, but i was behind a cop yesterday and he wasnt wearing a seatbelt himself, what typical double standards, they speed on 52 probably late for lunch, they are bogus and pathetic here. and dont forget how they butchered the wade steffey case. and purdue cops are the worst, they hide in alleys by the purdue village bars and arrest people for walking home with public intoxication, when they arent even driving. why dont all these cops in lafayette go after the million illegal mexicans all over town driving around with no insurance and no license, it seems they let illegals get away with everything, they just target whites on the roads because we dont pull guns and we pay our tickets that pay their salaries, so they pick on us and ignore the real problems going on, they get no respect from me and never will
I am a cop and totally agree with what you're saying. There are way too many crooked cops giving us bad names. But dont forget, there are still alot of good guys who do this job with pride, integrity and a sense of accomplishment. Dont give up on all of us!

they must have busted this cop because he wasn't kicking up to his superiors. the ones who don't get busted while the ones who "play ball" get to arrest all the civilians for the stupidest reasons. Hypocritic cops are a plague on our country. I have zero respect for them.

No, it will be Daylight savings.

Look, to all who have posted, not all cops are bad guys. There a few I will agree but you get what you pay for.

I will say, I was a police officer in a affluent town in central Indiana. I was on for 5 years and was making $33,000 dollars a year in my 5th year. I have a college degree and was getting a Master degree at night. I was smart, I got out. While there where people driving cars that were four times I made a year looking down on me.

I had aspirations of being the modern Andy Taylor. Give my life to public service, a job where it was almost be impossible to be laid off and get to catch bad guys. That lasted a year. Politics, letting other cops family and friends go. Well to do citizens calling the Mayor and chief biching that you were doing your job etc.

Most college grads make more that what most 5-10 year vets make. I am not condoning illegal behavior, but in these poodunk towns where they make 20 k a year, what kind of candiate are you gonna get to take that job? Some guy that barely graduated high school. Maybe ex-military or national guard who was not to high on the food chain there.

Sometimes you get the guy who was picked on in high school and wants some payback/

Until we start pay cops like professionals, you are going to get two kinds of cops. People that are selfless and WANT to do the job, or People who like to carry a gun, drive fast and like to bust everyones balls.

somehow DST may be to blame for this cop going bad. Maybe stress from keeping the skating rink open an extra hour caused this guy to turn to allegedly sell drugs. Maybe stress from contemplating the toll road lease at the other end of the state caused this poor cop to allegedly sell drugs. He is a democrat ergo a victim.

I agree that it's pretty atypical behavior for cops to sell drugs... But as far as his "different set of rules for cops" statement I agree with him. I followed a cop up Meridian yesterday (35mph zone I believe) who was on his cell phone and in civilian clothes. The cop was doing well over 70mph and weaving in and out of traffic. I tried to keep up with him so I could get his plates to report him. When I called IPD the person who answered the phone told me "he must be on silent patrol".... Cops break laws all the time, so don't get cranky when one breaks an "important" law and people say it's typical behavior. If you factor in speeding while off duty, breaking laws IS typical behavior....(Yes, I speed. So you don’t have to say "I bet you speed too". Unlike me cops are supposed to be the example.)
wrong. you are to be an example too. you speed too, so don't be crital. two wrongs don't make a right.

Good for you, keep reporting them. I will give you a secret, if the dispatcher tells you the cop is on silent patrol and you do not believe them, ask for the shift commander, usually a Lieutenent or Captain; then tell them what you saw and what the dispatcher told you. All dispatch calls are recorder. I guess, ssilent patrol in civilian clothes is the same as undercover. Yea, right.

Billy, Billy, Billy, you are right on the mark, dude. Like school teachers, who are professionals also, need to be paid like professionals. The hiring policies have to be strnghtened also to weed out the duds, for police work.

I used to be a prosecutor and I can attest to the fact that small town cops are USUALLY unqualified and incompetent. Sadly, most of them can't write a coherent, literate sentence. Worse, a lot of them are in law enforcement for all the wrong reasons -- to seek thrills, hit on women they pull over, push around people they don't like. The small agencies simply don't pay enough to attract high quality individuals. The smart candidates get on with better agencies. The losers take what they can get. Most of these unprofessional little departments are led by marshals or "chiefs" who have nothing more than a high school diploma or GED and they came from the same collection of boneheads as their rank and file. It's a real problem.

This was a great cop. It shows that it is entirely possible to do a good job and use drugs recreationally. He excelled at being a cop and member of the community despite his small health issue of being an addict. He does not disserve this, as no one does. The war on drugs is a failure it is doing nothing but corrupting and ruining everyone’s lives. For addiction(a few months of treatment) or having a good time(why bother) or making some money(mostly to feed addiction) how is it in the communities interest to continue this charade. It is prohibition that first demonizes these people and then wastes their lives, the drug addiction treatment can be completed in a few months with a few hundred dollars. Instead all of his training, his skills will be wasted and not to mention all the money prosecuting and then jailing will cost all of us, it costs our communities. It isn’t doing any good it isn’t stopping anyone it isn’t fooling anyone that knows the whole story of drug use. Even the best people in our society take missteps sometimes. Let him go and let all others go as well. It is not worth the destruction the war on drugs and prohibition causes to close our eyes and continue on this destructive path. Stay the course is not even an option anymore, this war is destroying America. Stop the terrorism of Americans by our government, end prohibition and Stop The Drug War now!

I don't feel sorry for him in the slightest. If he's a cop, he's got a little blue copy of the criminal code. He knows exactly what the penalty is. He chose to flout the law and he's caught now. On the A felonies, he's looking at a mininum mandatory 20 years. Good on him. Let it be a lesson to anyone else contemplating dealing drugs, with or without a badge.

Too bad one of them didn't P.I. Wade, a practice you so vehemently criticize. Had they done that, he'd be alive today. But wait, according to you, PI'ing wasted-people is a waste of time.

It's the little enforcement actions that can have the most profound effect.

I guess what I'm trying to say is shut the f up.

Well, that isnt how you file a complaint. You dont make a phone call. You go down to the city county building and go to internal affairs. You GO to the district and complain. You dont take the easy way out, make a phone call, sit back and complain. I drive an unmaked so, I'm unable to stop people. What I do sometimes is run the plate to the vehicle and if it's business owned I call the employer and talk to the OWNER/SUPERVISOR. I tell them about their employee and their poor driving. Most of the time they are appreciative. If I cant get ahold of anyone, I let it go. It's not THAT important for me to lose sleep over it. I dont call the receptionist and tell them. They dont care. As far as the "silent patrol", I've been on 14 years and that is the first time I have heard that one. Not quite sure what that is, but, it's obviously made up. There is a small number of our Department that makes the rest of us look bad. That is in any profession. Doctors, teachers, even factory workers. You know THAT GUY. All you can do is do YOUR job in a manner that is respectful and proper. I cant do anything about the idiots on the job. I didnt hire them. I cant fire them. When they lower the standards to hire because we are so short handed do to this mess called a merger, it's out of our hands. Next time, call Citizens Complaints:(wont let me post a number) look it up in the book.
