This has its pros and cons about it. Yeah I think people maybe scared to fill it out or perhaps lie on it too. I mean the post office knows where u live and who gets mail there. Why cant they go to the post office and find that out. but I honestly think mailing "get ready letters" is a waste of money. I think its a choice to fill this survey out, I mean you cant force someone to fill it out, and then say if you don't you may get fined. That is ridiculas way to go scare the public people. Whatever happened to freedom of choice????

All the government needs to know is how many people live at my house and ages..You dont need my name, my race etc etc....They dont need any more info than they already have...plain and simple

Just fill out the form and send it in. It is simple and basic and it is absolutely necessary for more reasons than most people even know. If people would take some of the time they are spending complaining about it and read about how the Census information is used, they might realize the need for it.

It took me less than 10 minutes to fill mine out and honestly I have given more information to Blockbuster to rent a movie than I did to the Census Bureau. There isn't anything they are asking for that if the government really wanted to know about you specifically they couldn't find on their own.

As far as the pre-mailing is concerned, it was proven a successful tool and the cost of mailing that letter to everyone is way less than the cost of sending an employee out to someone's house to get the information.

Just send it in and get over the "big brother" attitude. If the government wants to find out something about you they have plenty of other tools to do it and I don't think the Census Bureau is one of their top choices.

I sent mine out. Told them who was living at my house etc. Nothing more informative than that. It's not a big deal as I have seen the content of previous Census information (on Ancestry.com ) and have found interesting information about my ancestors. Hopefully, sometime in the future, my descendants will even look me up in the Census.

It's really not a big deal - unless of course you are an illegal or harboring a fugitive or something like that...lol

You are absolutely right, the government is wasting millions of taxpayers hard-earned dollars on television ads asking Americans to fill-out the census form.
The millions of illegal immigrants are "scared to fill it out and perhaps lie on it too." (Like they do on everything else, like using other people's Social Security numbers.) Their leaders, like Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villraigosa, is also spending money to promote the Census, because if they are all counted it will mean more Congressmen to represent the illegal immigrants in the U.S. Congress:

Really, they need to know my name why??? they need my phone number why??? and my race why??? all they need to know is how many live there, ages and gender..thats it

After I read the census I came to the conclusion that the government only wants to know about the illegal aliens and not much else. I'm tempted to shred it simply because if the information is anonymous than there is no need for a phone number or date of birth. This IS NOT an anonymous census, this is an information gathering tool and I, for one, do not like it.
