I would really like to see Bridgeport have a good library. Also, I would like to see that library have hours that extend well into the evening (say 10:00 pm) so that people could use it for places to go study just like a library on a university campus. That would be so good for our kids to have. I think they would be motivated to do better in school if they had a good professionally managed academic atomosphere like that to retreat to in the evenings. |

1 Well here's the deal. You get an educated town and then you attract wealth into that town because education tends to breed hard work, dependability, honesty, self-esteem and self-confidence. Ignorance is the enemy of mankind. The Catholic Church was very successful in keeping the laity igorant which brought about the Dark Ages. It wasn't until Martin Luther came on the scene and led the revolt known as the Reformaiton which helped to bring people out of the Dark Ages and got them educated about what God's word actually does say as opposed to the deceptive teachings of the Catholic Church. Education is the key to getting out of a rut. Every action begins with a thougth and an idea. Those ideas must be translated into action to be fruitful. Without education, ideas do not come and action is never taken and nothing changes (i.e. the town of Bridgeport stays in the "Dark Ages"). |

I didn't say the council said we needed a new library, Ms. Brown supposedly said it in the daily sentinel article. And as for the pious comments made by some, I'm sure there are plenty of educated people in Bridgeport. I have been wondering who In Christ was, I think I've got it now. I also wondered if you were at the same church as I, and if I'm correct you are. Elitist attitudes are not educated- they're exclusive, meant to keep out the people you deem unworthy. That is neither Christian or fair. I hope someday you will see that. Prosperity can never come as long as good ideas are ignored due to this problem. Wake up! You aren't as smart as you seem to think you are if you believe the things you spout.

1 Education is a good thing, indeed. However, it cannot be forced on anyone. All schools have libraries. Bridgeport is lucky to have a public library, unlike many rural towns in Jackson County. The opportunity is there, maybe someone needs to find a way to encourage young minds to use what they already have. As far as downtown Bridgeport goes, there is plenty of opportunity for advancement. Bridgeport is broken and it needs some good repairs. Some of the older generation don't want to see change. They like the small town atmosphere and think if business grows, they will lose that homey feeling. Sad to say that homey feeling doesn't help much when everyone goes out of state to Wal Mart to shop because there is nothing offered to them locally. Tennessee gets a large percentage of sales taxes from Bryant, Bridgeport, Stevenson, Higdon, Flat Rock, just because Kimball Wal Mart is convenient. I'm not saying Bridgeport needs a Wal Mart. I'm saying they need good, affordable small businesses that can give Wal Mart some competition. When the city grows and can actually afford a newer and better library, then go for it! Until then, you just have to make the best of what you have until the opportunity for better comes along. With new successful business comes prosperity and growth. And there, "in Christ" is the deal. |

Which church would that be? |
If we are at the same church and you feel that we are an elitist church, then why do you go to church there? I do not feel that we are an elitist church, however. I feel that we do the best we can to teach the truth of God's word and if we don't accept every wind and wave of doctrine as being true and that makes us elite, then I guess, in that sense, we are elite. |

OK, I apologize for that last comment. That was harsh. I just feel that I am being unjustly attacked because I am merely telling what I observe to be true. I promoted a good library on here and was attacked because of that. What gives? Pay particular attention to verse 6 in the following passage from Hosea:
Hosea 4: 1-6 1 Hear the word of the LORD, You children of Israel, For the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land: “ There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land. 2 By swearing and lying, Killing and stealing and committing adultery, They break all restraint, With bloodshed upon bloodshed. 3 Therefore the land will mourn; And everyone who dwells there will waste away With the beasts of the field And the birds of the air; Even the fish of the sea will be taken away. 4 “ Now let no man contend, or rebuke another; For your people are like those who contend with the priest. 5 Therefore you shall stumble in the day; The prophet also shall stumble with you in the night; And I will destroy your mother. 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. |

It takes a great deal of patience to listen to your drivel on here, but I've about run out. You seem to always bring out the very worst in me. You make these comments on things that, at their best, are never positive and then you say what gives? Apparently the one thing that does not give is you. I want to state clearly that the church I attend is the best church I have found for me thus far, and I have not , and will not criticize it!
Did I not apologize after the post following? |
How am I an elitist? I just said we need to promote education in Bridgeport and then all of a sudden I got accused of being an elitist. I also never said that there weren't educated people in Bridgeport. You put those words in my mouth. What I am saying is the more resources for education that Bridgeport has, the better educated our citizens can become. The more educated our citizens, the more attractive our town will be to industry, etc. Also, the more educated our town, the lower the crime rate will be. How is all of that "elitist?" |
You need to get up to times. The old testament has been fulfilled. We are living by the new testament now.If you are going to bring up the bible you should use the new testament. |
"Meant to keep out the people you deem unworthy." If I wanted to keep people out of anything, why would I be in favor of a big nice public library where ALL citizens of Bridgeport, the "worthy" and "unworthy" as you have me categorizing them, can use it to better themselves? If I were an elitist I would want as many people as possible to stay ignorant - the more ignorant, the better. As for having me penned down as to who you think I am, how about not approaching the person you think I am or treating that person with anamosity. It's pobably not me at all. |

1 Oh, so we don't have to know anything anymore? That seems to be the way people live. "Ignore the Bible because we're under 100% grace no matter what you do, say or believe. We're all going to heaven so drink, party and screw as many as you can. It's going to be OK in the end." That is a lie straight from the core of Hell itself that is taking many who adopt it straight to hell. |
If you live by the new testament you will go to heaven.Know one said anything about doing all that.Iwas just saying that when jesus died on the cross the old testament was fulfilled and now we live by the new testament. You seem to have alot of anger in you.Maybe you need to spend a little more time off the computor an a little more time in the alter |
