Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

A Cocoa woman was sentenced Thursday to eight months in jail for leaving her dog to die in a locked crate, but that punishment wasn't stiff enough for some impassioned animal-rights activists.

Come on guys...They don't know if the dog suffered da
The suffering that poor animal went through prior to dying is very obvious. Five years maximum would not have been enough.
I agree with the person who says she should be locked up in a cage without food or water...

Pathetic. 8 months is nothing. That is absolute cruelty. What a horrible lonely and painful way for anyone to die.

She needed to be blasted with more than words - May she rot in hell. Lets Quit beating around the bush with brutal, cruel human beings who purposely starve, beat, harm helpless animals!

I am so sick of all the animal cruelty, its time to give it back to these "people"...I wouldn't miss them at all...why should we have to feed them now?

It wasn't "anyone" it was a D-O-G dog.

Yes, it was a D-O-G. You are right. Animals are definitely not equal to people. I can guarantee you that if instead of a two year old dog it would have been a two year old child left in a cage without food/water for two months, the consequences would have not been just 8 months in jail. I can guarantee you that!
No, I am not a member of PETA. Yes, I do eat meat and its dammed good. Yes, I have had a dog before and that dog was never my equal. I was master, she was servant. I am one who believes dogs belong on the floor, not on the furniture. Dogs eat dog food, not human food. But that does not give someone the right to mistreat such loyal animals. That does not mean you can leave a dog in a cage to die from dehydration (lets be realistic here, the dog dehydrated long before it starved to death). Again, to agree with you, it was a D-O-G, not a child. The owner could have taken 30 minutes from her precious time to drop off the unwanted D-O-G at any animal shelter. No questions asked, just drop it off. Easy as pie.
It is not about making a D-O-G equal to a human, as the punishments of crimes against one, will never equal the other – and should never equal. It is about someone who took on the responsibility of caring for another living being, and instead of taking a humane and civil way out of that responsibility, she just walked away. What it is about is making someone realize that actions have consequences. You err; you repay your debt to society. Period.
Oh, and by the way, keep this in mind: be careful if you ever get into a situation were you find yourself hitting a police dog (or horse for that matter). Even though it is just a D-O-G, you will be charged with assaulting a P-O-L-I-C-E O-F-F-I-C-E-R. Just a thought.

Why in the world would I hit any dog? Much less a canine officer, a good friend of mine has a canine partner and I respect that dog more than most people.

Just because you are a realist and understand the natural relationship between humans and animals doesn't mean that most of the overemotional posters here have the same view (or cognative abilities) and it is the pawns of Ingrid Newkirk and Wayne Pacelle that I address.

8 months taken away from someone's life is pretty serious, and speaking logically it is a fair sentance.

U ppl who say dogs are not equal to humans are right, they are not... cuz they are better than humans, they love their owners unconditionally unlike humans who just keep them for joy where as that pet of urs take u as its parent.

A living being is a living being, no matter how small.

pets are like children, they are the living beings who never grow up. they too have endocrine and nervous systems, they too have emotions pain receptors. we were all equal single cellular and of even same size when we were zygotes its just our genes and organizers which gave us bigger size and and brain that grows up some day but our pet's genes worked in a lil different way n formed small bodies and brain with less IQ just like a child. Pets are people who never grow up and all wat they want from u is love. They dont really know the relations between their owners n don even know whose male or female... they just know these are ppl who r my parents. PETS R FOREVER CHILDREN. Notice a pet's and a child's behavior u'll see sooo many similarities. when u bring home a pet u bring home an adopted baby. n ur supposed to take care of it like a human child for their whole life/ till they are alive.

P/s: I'm very practical... more of scientific but I understand emotions, feelings and values of life and different living organisms. Everybody is equal, no one is superior or inferior. But for sure in Humans a human may b superior or inferior depending on their deeds and way of living and reaction to any action

There is a special place in HELL for people that abuse children, elderly and animals, and I hope she enjoys it when she gets there.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Gemini

You're in a very erratic mood today, making you restless, edgy and nervy. It may be almost impossible to settle to anything for long, because, as Mercury slows, you soon lose interest. If life becomes boring you'll want to liven it up in some way and it's likely you'll choose the most disruptive and controversial option you can think of, even though you know this will cause trouble.
