Another in the never-ending series of stories showing how many people are uncaring, cruel, irresponsible, and heartless when it comes to domestic animals. I will never understand people like that.

I've had a black pet rabbit for just over a year .She is a sweet little creature ,has the run of a small room and is litter trained .She interacts well with my two dogs . There isn't much care involved just ten minutes a day to clean the box everyday, make sure there's sufficient rabbit type foods and clean water .Children should be taught long term responsibility .

Nah, you got a story about dead baby ducks or squashed kittens or an escaped cow, Newsday is all over it like ugly on an ape.

Stories like this break my heart. These animals are so defenseless. How can people be so uncaring?

Well, I guess if people would use a plumbing snake on a mentally disabled man, dumping off a box of rabbits seems a bit tame, no?

Teaching disregard and disrespect for life, in addition to their poor parenting...the consciences of these parents are in need of a major overhaul.

Not unusual. I've rescued several rabbits who were dumped on my road in Manorville. People get them for their children for Easter and then don't want to take care of them. They stick them in the woods thinking they can survive. If you can't take care of them, don't buy them!!

I am one of the volunteers at LI Rabbit Rescue Group, and have read all of the posts so far. I agree with all except for the one about Elmer Fudd and exterminating rabbits - there is obviously something missing there.

If anyone wants to help (really help, not cause problems, please - we have enough problems on our plate!) go to www.longislandrabbitrescue.org and see how you can help.

There are more than 50 rabbits currently in our care and in need of good homes. We adopt them out only once they are healthy and spayed/neutered.

We can help educate on proper bunny care (whether you adopt from us or not - better for the bunny that the owner knows how to properly care for him/her).

Many people who call us to relinquish a bunny do so because it's "too much work". They don't realize bunnies can be litter trained, are incredibly social (more like a dog that uses a litter box...), and sweet, wonderful animals. 99% of the time, "negative behaviors" have more to do with the owner's improper care than the bunny being a "bad bunny".

If you can help, please contact us.

Believe it or not, you'll enjoy doing some domestic shopping today. For a start, it will be an interesting challenge to negotiate your way through the hordes of shoppers without getting mown down by a runaway trolley, and you'll also enjoy seeing what's on offer. Keep an eye open for bargains and be prepared to be flexible about some of the items on your shopping list.
