Our local juvenile court judge will have kids write an essay on manners in lieu of more drastic punishment. I love that guy!

Ah, nothing like resorting to violence to discipline kids. Is it any wonder they grow up thinking "hey, it's okay to hit because my parents did that to me"? Sure, you may disagree with me, but I stand by my comments. To those of you who do hit your kids to discipline, watch out for when they get older. They may also use violence to get their point across. Then, they may be involved with something illegal. Then, jail. All because their parents hit them. Ain't that nice? Is it any wonder this country is all about violence?

David, first of all thank you for your kind words on parenting skills and discipline. Secondly I thought I would let you in on a little thing here. I was spanked when I was a child. Spanked...not beaten, not abused, spanked. When I got into trouble I was disciplined. I am very proud to say that due to my rigid and loving upbringing, that I have never been to jail, have only been in fights defending myself, and I don't beat my kids. When a punishment warrants a spanking, I may issue said punishment. As a matter of fact, as a former spanked child, I have served in the military, I have worked in a wide array of jobs and currently I have a promising and lucrative carreer. I don't lie awake and cry at night wondering why my daddy didn't love me. I thank my father for the discipline that he instilled into me. Thank you for listening.

Well beating them to a pulp is not the answer and psycho-therapy is not going to solve anything.

Go a step further and add the one thing that ANY young lady their age dreads the most.

Take away their telephone priveledges.Throw in losing computer priveledges and they might be remorsefull as hell within a few days.

Writing assignment to me seems to mild of a punishment. I think the kids should have to work to help with the chores around the house (cutting grass, trash etc.) along with the writing assignment. Or some kind of community service.

These kids (key words KIDS) committed a very adult crime. As we don't go around spanking adults (unless they are clad in leather and are willing to submit) we can't exactly lock the kids up behind bars for months. However charging them for vandalism would be ideal, and also the parents making them pay the fines and for repairs would also be ideal. Now as a parent on top of making my kids pay for the damages, I would place the flat side of my hand upside the backsides of my children.

Why do adults insist on using violence to get their point across to kids? It's like you tell them not to hit another kid, but then you go around and hit them. You can't have it both ways. There are better ways to settle desputes (spelling?) without resorting to violence. THAT'S what's wrong with the world...too much violence.

Having said that, if I ever have kids, I will NEVER hit them when they misbehave. If I do, I will turn myself in and be arrested.

If you disagree with me, it's because I don't believe in violence, unlike SOME people. Violence only makes this planet worse. Look at the wars today. Look at all the violence the media throws out at us. Violence is never the answer and I'm sticking with that. Okay, I'm done now.

Does he actually think the no video games and no tv will be enfored? Wonder how long it was suppose to be for? They might have to do the writting penalty.

They caused over $30,000 in damage. I wouldn't worry too much about their precious reps. They obviously aren't too worried about it. And now look, they get national attention for their crimes, just what they wanted.

They should be locked up until they can figure out a way to pay for it.

If they are old enough to do the crime then they are old enough to accept responsibility for it and do the time.

That is completely insane. Spanking kids does not make them violent. If a few more kids got spanked then the world would be a better place. Kids know that they can pretty much do whatever and get away with it. And the punishment they should have received was JAIL. Which is not being violent to them. These freaks of nature destroyed an 87 year old woman's house.$30,000. That is a lot of money. They should have to pay it back. And time outs don't do a lot for making a kid behave. But you go ahead and continue to live in your cotton candy clouded world. It seems to work for you.
But when you come out into the real world you are going to get a real suprise.

Only if some bozo like yourself calls 911 and says someone is beating their child. And after investigation they would get the child back. Being spanked or paddled in school is NOT going to hurt any kid. Might make their butt sting for a few minutes but that is it. You seem to think that what these two yard apes done is ok or not that big of a deal. I just wonder if it had been your house how you would have reacted. Somehow I don't think your reaction would be to take away their tv for a while and make them write a few sentences.
