Its a shame that ending beach driving in Volusia county is once again going to court. As a former resident of Pennesylvania and coming to Flordia since 1972 the attraction of coming to Fla was not the Disneyor seaworld parks but DRIVING on the beach in Volusia county. Take that away and you think the tourisms down now ! surprise driving on the beach is a big part of attracting people to visit the great state of Florida. By the way I now live in Volusia county and enjoy the beach 4 times a week.

If they close down the the beach driving, fine. But don't ask me the taxpayer to re build your property when the ocean comes and takes it.

I have to let this out. First, these beach front idiots that don't want people "their" beach can go screw themselves. Whenever a large storm hits and threatens to wash away their property, these are the first idiots to start screaming about it's the states, counties, cities, tax payers responsibilty to fix the problem. If they deam it's theirs then let them try to get a permit to wall it off...good luck idiots
Now for the court thing. These clowns can't keep the thug, headhunting, drug dealing, killing, stealing, repeat affenders in jail. And yet their biggest problem is driving on the beach? I say kick these over paid paper pushers out on the street for a couple of weeks and lets see how much concern they have on the beach thing then. My bet is they would shake and mumble for a few months, then go hide in the closet.
This though how the system works and does sometimes makes for gut laughing reading. Better than cartoons or comics.

Seems the beach drivers are frothing at the mouth again. Beach driving is a repulsive habit encourage by greed for the money it generates. No world class beach allows driving on it. Not one.
Kick the habit cold turkey. Stop dropping anti freeze and motor oil on the sands we lie down on. Stop taking up all the space on the beach with giant hunks of metal and plastic that roll over people on occassion.

You have around a thousand miles of beach to lay on. This beach became a "WORLD CLASS BEACH" because of the events of driving on it. It's known all over the world for it. Don't you ever read?

Keep cars off the beach, behind the dunes. Keep development off the beach, behind the dunes. Everyone's screaming, "IT'S MINE!! IT'S MINE!!" Yet both are destroying it. Keep it up and I'll have beachfront property here in Orlando.

Here we go again. This is and has been a case of the property owners wanting their own private beach. I am a native of NSB. These homeowners want the beach rebuilt -- NEED the beach rebuilt -- at taxpayer's expense AND want a private beach. They can claim it will still be public but any local beachgoer realizes there is not enough parking or access for the many thousands who enjoy NSB. Let's have a lottery and knock down every one in five houses and turn them into parking lots. The next whining you will hear after banning driving on the beach will be "People are parking on my street."

Pinker, The beach has eroded due to storms. You are an idiot. Stay in Orlando and wait for the beach. Please.

Daytona beach has been a vehicle driving beach since the early 20's. It's one of the few that has not had to be redone or fixed due to erosion.
Could it be that the vehicles compact the sand on a daily bases and keeps it from washing away? Any structure built must have a 'steamroller' compact the ground to insure water will not seep in and pull out the underlying dirt and sand the structure stands on. Get my point?

Someone please deduct my share of the Citizen's insurance and cost for pumping sand for pompous people like these that have the audacity to think they own the beach. Then, after the next hurricane comes their way, the neighbors across the street will have beach front property!

whether one likes it or not, the amount of oil, antifreeze etc. caused by "beach driving"- which is really just SAND- Florida was mostly dirt/shell roads in many areas till the last couple of decades..;;;
is minor- compared to all of the same throughout the state, that with rain falls..wash into the storm water system and finds its way into the oceans...(so unless one is walking or pedaling to the beach, pollution's happening)
that scripture, to paraphrase- "don't take the splinter out of your neighbor before first taking the board out of your own eye" probably applies! kind of like the environmentalists "flying around the world" to save the earth.
Volusia has miles of beach that is NO DRIVING. most of us have vehicles that are worth more than corroding with the salt spray, even when spending the time to wash afterwards. and like poster- for most other no drive areas are more suitable.
BUT with America, they used to be some free choice...
And as has been posted most don't allow beach driving (because of various reasons- most likely the main two are "private ownership & control (including GOV't) and a reality most sands looseness, rocky terrains, widths etc. does not allow it from a practical standpoint..

Why people buy oceanfront real estate where there's public access, if they don't like the public "surrounding their property" ? well....why do people stand in the rain and complain that they'll getting wet!

The greed is in the homeowners who want their own private beach. The greed is in the politicians who allowed overdevelopment of the dune line. Yes, property values will rise if beach driving is outlawed. This means more tax revenue. Politicians and beachfront home and condo owners hand in hand. There is your greed. I am sure this argument will be well funded by the people who want to change our way of life.

Now I'm on my way, late, to help with the volunteer beach cleanup. Should not have let myself get distracted by this.

all these people griping about beach driving, are probably transplanted yankees, that have no idea what an attraction driving on the beach is for tourists to the daytona area.i personally think that any restrictions on beach driving,is totally rediculous, and an invasion of my right to drive on a federal highway, thats right look it up,so all you property owners go pound sand!

So where do you suggest all beachgoers park their cars when going to the beach? This is not just a driving on the beach issue, nor an issue where you can just wave a magic wand and everything will be ok. If property owners think people are trespassing now, just wait and see what happens when beachgoers are parking in their front yards, and cutting through their lawn to get to a PUBLIC area. As for the "giant hunks of metal and plastic that roll over people on occassion" comment, just wait and see all the deaths that occur from families crossing A1A to get to the beach.

This shouldn't even be a discussion. We shouldn't have an inherit right to drive on any federal parkland or public facility unless there is a road designed for it. I've lived here for 50 years and have never thought I had to drive on the beach. Parking in a public lot is fine...just a brief walk to the beach.
Let the fatties and lazy slobs park(like they do in other states) and carry their beer, lawn chairs, umbrellas, teddy bears, trikes, and other stuff to the beach. Stop being so damn lazy!

Beach driving is a traditional pastime enjoyed by millions. Not withstanding the selfish demands of oceanfront property owners, the only compelling reason to ban beach driving would be the discovery of reliable evidence that it is harmful to the beaches we so enjoy.
