Well now we will have a 3% crime instead of a 0% crime rate and as for studies, they never tell you the complete truth.....As for train traffic and people we do not have any because the tracks have not been used for at least 25 years. So there is concern...We have had no one near us and we are not going to be totally protected by the curfew. Do think that there will be police out there all night making sure that the homeowners and their livestocks are safe? NOT!!!!!!!!!! I DON'T THINK SO! I will definitley not support Pat Northerly again. All she is looking is MONEY for the city...<quoted text>
Obviously you don't quite understand statistics.
Only 3% of the trails have crime, not that the proposed trail will have 3% more.

You have zero crime rate currently but that doesn't mean that there will be any on the proposed trail. You can't predict, but you also can't live in a shell and be fearful of everything. I guess that is the difference in being an optimist than a pessimist.

True, studies can't show you the complete story, but at least studies, if well done, can give you some idea of historical trends and proof rather than dwelling on worry and doubt.

Police are there to protect. Do they patrol your street every night? Probably not. Should they patrol the trail every night? Probably not. Will they be available if there is trouble and you call them? I'd bet on that scenario.

You can support whoever you want, but isn't the job of a politician to make the lives better for the greater good of the community, increase services and do so in an economically ethical manner? I think she has done that in this case.

NEWS FLASH!! NEWS FLASH!! Representative Allen and Congressman Craig have decided to back this plan as long as there are public men's rooms built every other mile and the last two stalls are reserved for them to troll for their SPECIAL form of Republican "Man Love"!!! They also invite the rest of their collegues in the Central Florida REPUBLICAN Delegation to join them in their celebrations!!..We got them cruisin enough of the restrooms that ALREADY exist! Representative Allen ALREADY seems to have reserved the last stall in all of them!

The trails are a great idea. Then plan once implemented might jump start some communities that are still clueless to the importance of these forms of outdoor recreation into finally taking them seriously into consideration. Deltona, that was a hint.

Sounds like another bitter fat-a$$. I bet you need to ride a bike a lot more than most people do.
I say we blow up I-4 and make it a bike trail too.
You've got that right! Speeding worries would certainly dissipate as well as cases of road rage. "Forced" exercise, so to speak...think how much better off folks would be mentally, physically, and emotionally

We need to make our communities more open and inviting to people to get out and recreate. Get away from the notion that physical activity only involves running or hitting a ball around. There are lots of ways people can be active. Trails and and walkways are one of the most convenient and easiest. People of all ages, mothers with baby carriages, and whole families can use trails to GET UP AND OUT AND MOVE.
The Volusia YMCA is trying to involve people right now in a nationwide initiative called America On The Move with community walks. I went on the first of these walks held in Deltona from City Hall to the YMCA by Deltona High. It was a 2 mile walk. We need to do more of these kinds of activities in our communities, involve the parks, and incorporate placement of more trails and walkways throughout the community so that these kinds of outdoor activities will be further encouraged.

We are not happy about this. How would you like a trail of people, bicyles, horses, etc in your backyard. Our parcels are split by the railroad, now we have to worry about people messing with our livestock on both sides and what about at night if people are hanging out on the trails. WHAT HAPPENS TO THE HOMEOWNERS??????????What a joke!
If people in general want to mess with your live stock they are going to do it with or without bike trails. Most athletic people are worried about taking care of their outer and inner self. they aren't usually vandels or aggressive people. You are looking at the wrong type of people.
