I got goose bumps, Makes me want to go polish up "Daisy", clean out some salt buckets, gather up my fuel jugs, dust off my walkie-talkie, and get back home.
More fun than Cedar Point 10-4? |

Almost every person that lives here in Carroll County complains all the time that there is no industry in the county and therefore no jobs. Well this mine will bring many needed jobs to Carroll County. I for one am in total favor of these new jobs. I hope the commissioners and trustees do everything they can to make sure these jobs ar secured. As for the truck traffic it will be no worse than we already have with the Wal-Mart and garbage trucks we already have to deal with!

1 I for one, am in favor of this. DIG OHIO COAL !! In the 70's coal and natural gas were Ohio's #1 industry, pre EPA days, Carroll County prosperred duringf the 70's. Bring back the "good old days" I love driving my gas sucking F-350, my oil driping (not safe at any speed)'66 Corvair, and my smoke belching (pre 2007 emisions standard) Cummins powered Peterbilt. I also like catching fish in Leesville Lake and killing deer in Rose Twp Industry makes the world go around, WAKE UP AMERICA |

i for one am absolutely disgusted with this. you people do not realize what this is going to do to our small town. and all those jobs you think rosebud is going to bring to carroll county? do you honestly think they are going to give all their jobs to us? no, they're going to bring in their own employees who already know what they're doing and won't need additonal training. they aren't just going to hire you people off "the street". and tell my why it is that rosebud own hundreds of acres of land further from city limits, yet they must pick the closest location to town possible, force residents to sell out their private property, disrupt the peace of other residents of the area, and destroy the home of millions of wildlife? and they think penny road is equipt to handle 100+ heavyload semis on a daily basis? have you people ever been on penny road before? please...carrollton will be clone of amsterdam ohio.

Area buisnesses and local goverment should prosper from the revenue generated by the new mines.
Carrol County has an over abundance of natural resourses at it's disposal, why not reap the benefits? Wildlife will find new homes, sure it'll be traumatic for them at first, but they'll adjust. |

Concerned asked: tell my why it is that rosebud own hundreds of acres of land further from city limits, yet they must pick the closest location to town possible,
** My guess would be because thats where the money is...either the best coal, or its easier to get to, etc. It must be cost effective for them, or they'd chose another location. Maybe Rosebud can see the city closing in on the location, so they've decided to mine now, rather than in the future. There are other residual effects from mining besides more mining related jobs...like the possibility of reclamation and housing developments (which would bring even more jobs). Ohio Coal, a natural resource, an American resource putting Americans to work. |

I wonder how many of you actually read the article? They are talking about a 30-40 acre piece of property to develop and UNDERGROUND coal mine. The talks of reclamation and losing habitat for wildlife are ludicrous. As for the city closing in I can see that happening as they are always trying to look for more tax money to capture! As well, If they do use Penny road it will become one of the best Township roads in the county, they will bring it to an excellent shape and keep it that way. Just another thought to throw out is: HOW MUCH MONEY DO ALL THE WAL MART AND GARBAGE TRUCKS PUMP INTO THE LOCAL ECONOMY????? EXACTLY RIGHT NOT A DIME!!!! It is time for people to wake up and grab this opportunity to bring some industry back into Carrollton and Carroll County. Without it this town and county are dead!!!

they are planning to use penny road. and i'm sure they will turn it into "the best road..." yeah right. the county commissioners weren't even aware that rosebud wants to use penny road and when asked about it the commissoners' response was, "what? penny can't handle that". im sure glad our county officials knows what the hell is going on.

Driving gas sucking vehicles is certainly a lot of fun, but only if the fuel is cheap. When the world economy comes out of the current slump, we are probably going to be in for more price shocks. Most experts agree that we have probably burned through about 1 trillion barrels of the worlds 2 trillion barrels of proven reserves. When world demand re-ignites and starts pushing hard up against that finite supply, prices are going to skyrocket as more and more people start competing for the 2nd have of the black gold pie. I wish it weren't so (I enjoy punching the pedal on my 200HP 4.0L Ranger 4x4), but I am afraid that is the reality. The U.S. is the Saudi Arabi of coal, so we do have that resource to fall back on. Its dirty stuff, however. Hopefully technology will help with that (there are some big fortunes to be made for those who make big breakthroughs in that area). Seems like the Carroll County economy is in a slump, so it seems like this mining proposal should be given serious consideration (the school system could use the extra tax revenue). If the commissioners are doing their job correcly, they will do a thorough cost benefit analysis weighing the job creation and tax revenue benefits against the possible environmental impacts and then lobby hard if concessions are needed. I sure hope they aren't on the take. Many politicians are. Mike Tope formerly of Dellroy, Ohio |

mike jamison said that once the mine is in full swing, it'll be about 20 semi's an hour loading and utilizing penny road. i'm pretty sure penny won't be able to keep up with 20 trucks an hour every day like that..and for those who live on penny rd and have cherished the peaceful and quiet country neighborhood, well i'm afraid those days will be a memory once the mine is in. |

1 The wildlife finding new homes is the least of our worries. Have any of you ever done any research as to what an underground coal mine does to ground water?? How many of you have your nice clean well or spring water?? Kiss that goodbye! People that live in the area of this future coal mine have already been warned about their water. From reading some of the other posts on here I see why people from carroll county are known as dumb hicks! |
