This is really sad. For this innocent infant to be abused in such a violent manner. I know its easy to get frustrated with an infant, but this 22 year old guy should have chosen another outlet for these frustrations. Unfortunately, he probably did not know how to.
If there were 'signs of frustration' he should have never been left alone with these children.

Parenting is not for everyone. No two 22 year olds are the same. I'm sure there are some that can handle it...... this particular young man could not.

[Bluge changed his story, admitting he had ''feelings building up from many things, money issues, living with Swope's father, the babies and the start of his new job being delayed'']

And this is why he should have kept it in his pants.

You watch, he's going to try to cop a plea of temporary insanity or something like that. He's changed his story so many times, he knew VERY well that what he did was wrong. Too, if he WAS so "frustrated" with the kids, if his girlfriends' Dad was in the house, couldn't he ask him for help, or maybe tell him he was agitated, SOMETHING? I say fry him or lock him up and throw away the key.

She said she had concerns with leaving him alone with the baby...THEN WHY WOULD SHE DO IT?? If I was ever even just the slightest bit uncomfortable with who I was thinking about leaving my children with, I made sure there was someone else there to back them up or I didn't just didn't do it. Where was her dad? Didn't he hear the baby crying? Didn't he have the slightest feeling that maybe he should have checked on the situation?

$15,000 Bail. Are you kidding me. Lock him up and throw away the key. No baby deserves to be treated like that.

This a-hole should be shot on the spot. If given a free pass, I would volunteer to do it myself.

If you cant take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

If you cant handle being a dad, insure you dont be one.

What a scum.

At St. Lukes, they make everyone watch a video on shaken baby syndrome either for your check-in appt. or after you deliver, and you have to sign off that you saw it. It's a 'baby step', but better than nothing. So sad...

Winner!

That baby is most likely damaged for life and he probably won't see more than 2 years in jail. The laws need to be changed to send these animals away for a long time!

He should have used a condom to avoid the parental frustrations.

It's lost on me why these people have kids in the first place - didn't this idiot ever hear of a condom or a vasectomy?

everyone is hating on the man. How many 22 year old men do you know that have experience parenting a baby? I say he has male post-partum, coupled with a society that thinks he should know how to take care of a baby, without anyone ever teaching him how. If a woman did this, it would be "well, where was the father?" The man is is jail, but his life shouldn't end. The double standards of the people who post to comments like this amaze me. Blame the mom for creating a hazard to her child, blame the father for not helping, blame the dude for shaking the baby... all your blame doesn't stop the problem. I guess punishing is more important than prevention.

Sometimes condoms break. How do you know if the girl lied about being on birth control, but wasn't really? And, no respectable urologist would recommend or perform a sterilization procedure on a 22 year old.

Sometimes wisecracks only serve to show the ignorance of the person saying them.

That is horrible! I can't believe people can do this. i know how you can get to that point but you have to re-direct and choose a different outlet. put the child down in a safe place and walk away. this MF should be castrated so he can never reproduce AGAIN!!!! no child deserves this. one split second, thier lives will never be the same. my heart goes out to this poor baby. i think they should get life for this, it's worse than killing them i think!!

Let's blame everyone else except the person who committed the crime. How stupid do you think we are? Who doesn't know that shaking a child will hurt him/her. I have 3 children and yes, i do get frustrated with them, esp at 3 am after being up for 1-2 hours knowing i have to be at work by 7. but would NEVER shake or hurt my child. It doesn't matter if it is a mom, dad, friend, baby sitter, whatever. There is no excuse for this.

Unfortunately, this gets by some patients. When I had my son there 2 years ago, I never got to see it. I kept asking to see it so I could learn what not to do...I know not to shake, but is pushing a stroller on a bumpy sidewalk or through grass going to do the same thing? The nurses all said they would bring it in and no one did. They released me without seeing it. Obviously, like you say, it's a baby step, but I would have liked to see it and see if too much tickling would do the same thing. I spent the first 6 months yelling at my husband for playing with him!! Great hospital otherwise

I am glad to see that you and "Joe" did not immediately jump on the "fry him" wagon, in spite on how easy it is to do. My first thought was that I have to pause before I condemn, because far to often when I have condemned and not strived for compassion, I have later understood too well what brought someone to some low point by being in a similar place myself.
This thought is not meant to excuse in any way, or to mitigate his accountability, but only to temper the condemnation.
May God help them all, but most especially that innocent baby.
