I would not be surprised that they "elevated numbers" due to the cell phone spin off that they screwed up. When I worked there three years ago, they constantly massaged the financials. I think it speaks volumns that no one wanted to purchase the cell phone division or the fact that they could not spin it off because it is a horrible crappy business unit that no one wants to run.

Yeah well I bet after the dust settles, the smoke clears, and the media attention goes away, Motorola will quietly pay this dude off. You can bet your A-- that they want those computers because there's incriminating evidence on them that could land the company if front of a senate subcommittee hearing.

On a more personal note, I don't USE Motorola cell phones because I've got friends who have them and they all claim that they S---! No reception, always F----- up, blank screens, reboots...in short, JUNK! You can bet that they'd do anything they can to prevent the general public from finding out what their customers already know.

I know that Motorola is a US company, and that they are a very old and distinguished company. But that doesn't matter once the yellow tied B---------s take over. Then it's just "Get the money, get the money, get the money" and scr-- the employees and customers too.

They should be careful though, because the present economy isn't the most conducive environment for "Business as usual"!

This is a situation that will have to be decided by litigation - both sides have probably stretched the truth.

I'll bet he was dismissed due to his refusal to sign...and now that he has documents that will hurt the company they are scared. I'd love to follow this story all the way to the bitter end.

They need to rub out the Engineering management. They think they are Gods but don't know jack .... They take credit for the good that the engineers do but it's not their fault when things go bad. I feel sorry for when they finally get fired because nobody will want to and shouldn't hire them.

Like any corporate company, the work laptop is NOT yours. You have banners and disclaimers that everything you do on your work laptop, is actually property of the company. So, by tampering with evidence, surely you have something to hide. The guy has no recourse, I hope he loses in court.

I used to work in Motorola and their structure is not good. There are way too many middle managements. It's a waste of money and the low level engineers don't get the right recognition and pay. I would still like them to succeed but they need to do some restructuring.

Motorola seems to be a bad negative regime here.
They are in the technology business but yet they really don't understand? ex> Digital versus Analog, Hence ==Nokia!

Oh! back to the topic. Why not simply have stored the information on SERVERS as most companies do. Most companies do not allow executives to store data on Laptops etc... like our Government.

After reading this all I can say is Motorola has idiots in their HR department. I would never let an employee who I was letting go take home any equipment or boxes after I let them go. All the places that I have worked the first thing they do is cut off your access to the servers...30 seconds later you get a call or a knock on the door from your boss. If Mr. Liska did delete information like Motorola said after he was terminated then the blame has to, as least some, be put back on Motorola.

We can all agree that CEOs, directors, VPs, managers, etc. aren't the most ethical people in this country. And all the comments I've seen on this board and others sums that up very well.

But, during this whole ex-CFO vs Motorola episode, we are forgetting the true victims - the employees. This lawsuit, the bad publicity, and the slandering of the company hurts the employees. They have families to take care of and bills to pay. The employees all feel the same that have been posted on all these boards. I know, because I work there.

We don't control senior leadership's actions. But we ultimately pay for their mistakes, neglect, and arrogance. The effect of that leads to a mentality here of who really cares about anything anymore? This is not a career, but just a job. And we accept that for some reason. Maybe it's because of the fear of being unemployeed and not being able to support our families...I don't know. But that ain't right. We all talk a good "game" on these boards, but when it comes down to it, no one wants to lead because no one wants to be accountable.

When it comes down to it, Liska is only suing for his signing bonus (money), that's it. He doesn't represent us nor the blue collar. He's doing it for his own self-fish greed. In order to sue for that money, he and his lawyers say that they are "suing for defamation of character (et al)".

In my opinion, I think Liska got what he deserved. Whether he is right or wrong in this case, it makes no difference. If he was so truly righteous, then why not be the martyr that he's tring to portray himself as, and spill the beans without "blackmailing" Motorola for monetary gains? Because people like him and like all Motorola management...have self-fish, egotistical motives that won't let him.

so glad I was laid off there years ago - what a shoddy run place - infested with too many layers of middle-managment - seems not much has changed. I refuse to buy any Motorola product.

This is what "tea baggers" should be protesting, not some imagined tax increase by President Obama when he is actually cutting taxes for the vast majority of us, those of us who earn less than 250k. It's not Obama who is fleecing America, it's the corporations with their outsourcing to India, their greed and disproportionate pay for CEOs while those of us who work get shafted with crap pay and our benefits eroding by the day.

I agree with this since I worked in internal reporting for 5 years. I knew Laurie Mesner when she was working there as CAO and have been told from people still there that this is why both Laurie Messner left the company. Liska refused to sign the forcasts.
