School districts across the region are tensing for Tuesday's budget votes, when recession-weary taxpayers will get their only say on public spending of any kind.
Every year the school board threatens to cut our children's programs if the budget doesn't pass. I have never heard the teachers unions ever volunteer on reductions in their fringe benefits or pay. Teachers NEVER are willing to give up anything that their union bosses have negotiated in the past not even "FOR THE SAKE OF THE CHILDREN" Teachers union only care about the children as long as their contracts are not affected. These unions would rather have teachers and support staff fired than to renegotiate a reasonable contract.
