1 Anyone remember Barney's? They had THE BEST shredded ham sandwiches. It was next door to McDonald's, to the south. I think there's a metal building there now (fireworks?) Or Taco Pete's? It was on the SW corner of Broadway & Carlton, where Calyx is now (and where a beauty salon was for many years). I think we ate dinner there the first day we were in Pittsburg, in 1967. What about La Manzana? It was owned by Gary Hannes (who had the Waxworks radio show in the 70s) and his wife. It was a tiny place in the bottom of the cinderblock building on the SE corner of Euclid & Pine. It was the best Mexican food I've ever had in the US. Sadly, it was open only a year or two, around 1979-80. The Hannes family had lived in Guanajuato, Mexico, before mving to Pittsburg; I believe the parents returned there. Or the PX by Lakeside and the Pitt by the old high school? I'm going to quit because I'm starting to feel old... |
