What's the best spot to hang out at in Bonham. Sherman/Denison is to far to be driving back from after a night out. Whats the best bar to go to.

I haven't lived in Bonham for a while but go back to visit every so often. I was under the impression there wasn't really anywhere, such as a bar, to hang out in Bonham.

If you just want a "bar", the "honky tonk" is JC's Whiskey River out by Lake Bonham. Shumardii's restaurant has a nice bar area and it's a pretty good gathering spot. Probably the nicest place to go is Legacy Ridge, they have a bar and much nicer facilities and usually have some good bands there.

JC's is police trap, to small and full of rednecks. Legacy has bands but your outside in the heat. Legacy ridge what a joke, its just Bonham trying to be more like Dallas, Shumardi's food is alright.. sometimes, the drinks are over priced, the walls are dirty and the service usually sucks. the only other two places are the VFW and the Legion both have Karaoke on the weekends the VFW has some dances and the drinks are cheaper, and the crowd is more refined than the legion, the week end bartenders are nicer than the one there during the week, the legion seems to get alot of south bonham customers, so not exactly my choice when cruising to meet someone, I never went to the military but between the two i'd pick the vfw over the legion, but overall i'd rather hang out at Legacy Ridge it's more quiet than the blaring Karaoke, the foods better than Shumardi's, not alot of rednecks or south bonham trash,

i greed the weekend bartenders at the vfw are far nicer than anywhere else in town, i think they got some new ones

that was supposed to be agree not greed

Legacy Ridge is a "country club"...what sort of price do they have on thier memberships?
I hear the Legion is pretty rough.....and I thought only military vets could join......and that the VFW was strictly for war vets. |
both the Vfw and the legion canteens are open to the public, you do not have to be a member to go in and have a drink but you must "sign in" as guest but there's no membership charge like JC's. to join the legion you must have just served in the military, to join the VFW you had to actually serve overseas during a conflict, and or have been in combat.

bongrad03 said-VFW has some dances and the drinks are cheaper, and the crowd is more refined than the legion, the week end bartenders are nicer than the one there during the week,
didn't know what you meant until i went i during the week days, serviced sucked, she was to busy sucking down her own beer and gossiping at the end of the bar to pay us any attention |
bonham should just go wet, or atleast one of the little towns around it. that way you can hang out at your house, and not bother anyone
try talking to the person in charge about that day time bartender... maybe he can get something taken care of!!
wouldn't the members have to vote her out. isn't she a member, or does the vfw hire people that are not members? that guy in charge is always drunk but everyone knows who he is. guess he's prety popular.
the guy in charge awesome!!! and yeah they need to get rid of that one bartender...Betty or something like that!! all the other ones seem really nice! she is the only one i have ever had a problem with

Let's see the rest of the gossip starters put their real name up here. Stand up and be accounted for.
If there are any problems with the canteen you should voice your opions at the time of the occurance. I'm not going to sit here and let the VFW Post, members , and bartenders get put down. The members of the local VFW work hard to give back what we can, not only to the veterans but the local community. |

How about keeping the drunks off the roads leaving there. That would be a start. People having to dodge them all over the place on 273 coming out of there.
You will have to take it, sit down if you prefer but take it just the same. This is the internet, opinios are many you as I will take or not participate. I have been to the "V" enough to understand and witness first hand the bartenders Suzie and Becky are not freindly to new or semi casual patrons. Unless you have paid for your stool by sucking beers or a different alcoholic beverage on a daily basis you are not welcomed. Furthermore a goofball named Vince something who is a elected officer for the VFW is, often biligerent, regularly drunk, consistently a huge jack ass, which adds to the negative atmosphere that can be found there more often than not. If you disagree "N Hall" you are uninformed and blindly throwing in your opinion or you have spent enough time and money to own a stool at this watering hole and the favor of the staff. Yes the VFW members deserve our respect and they often help charitable causes. Too bad the unfriendly staff dampens the spirit of this well placed establishment. |

First, those that decide to drink and drive have made their own decision to do so. I have myself volunteered to take individuals home after having to much to drink, and the cab is always picking someone up. With 273 being a main artery of traffic from Bonham, you can't possibly expect all the drunks to be from The V.
I do not own a stool there, nor do i have the favor of the staff, and am not completely blind. I'm simply an elected officer of the post. I'm not here to take up for individuals and their actions or decisions, but just simply the Post itself. If there is a negative vibe there i can see why one wouldn't enjoy themselves. Yes, there is a friendly relationship between the "Regulars" and most of the casual patrons. But that is expected at any place. |
Umm, the drunks are usually heading back in to Bonham on 273 from the good old vfw watering hole. Don't sit there, or stand in your case, and act like it doesn't have a widely known reputation around town for getting guys and gals liquored up out there.

The American Legion crowd contributes a lot of drunks on the roadways as well.
The VFW and American Legion are both veteran organizations. Nobody gets anyone drunk. The person that consumes the liquor. As far as the VFW they have plenty that take people home that have had to much or they call a taxi for that person or persons and the VFW pays for it. Instead of blaming the estabishment, blane the people who choose to get behind the wheel and drive. When did responsiblity go out the window. As far as the commander and the bartenders go, they are very nice people...As far as you people writhing this garbage, did you serve in the military and put your life on the line, so that we can be free today??? Instead of complaing, you should be thanking a veteran that you have freedom today!!! If you do have a problem with any of the bartenders go and tell one of the officers, and get the situation taken care of in front of the bartender.. Have a good day and remember drink responsibility |
