the drum circles are full of psuedo-hippies that are pissed off that they missed Woodstock and the 1960's also beware-they also are a bunch of carrying dope smokers, and the SRQ cops are just waiting to bust you- also with informants IN the DRUM circle idiots don't be a fool alsom there is nothing wrong with Bradenton Beach, it's just not LILLY WHITE, and there have been a few 'police incidents' there ! but I assure you, there have been TONS of police incidents at Siesta, even Lido the above 'dis' on Bradenton, smacks of cleverly cloaked RACISM to say the least, because many latinos do visit, but they visit SIESTA TOO !!(duh....check out the name...er, "Siesta")...but 'white folks' around here are paranoid and sometimes STUPID as well Certainly, Siesta Beach is a prettier surrounding for sure, but let's leave nasty sly innuendo, without explanation, OUT of it Y

I think it depends on your self-esteem as to whether or not you are comfortable in Sarasota. Personally I would rather be there than Atlanta where I have to watch my back every minute.

Sure come on down, the beaches are great. And with Obama's death panel soon to be put in place, we can finaly get rid of all these old fucs. But yes, Sarasota does have a ton of crime, murders. A man was just cut up and dismembered, and set on fire and dumped on University Parkway. Two people were murdered in Venice at their home. Another man shot himself in Venice on I75. Homes get broken into almost on a daily basis. OH yeah, and the school system allows teachers to hit the students, special needs student. Diana O'Neal hurt her kids, hitting, kicking, tore skin off a childs lip, hit them on their heads. These kids couldn't speak, they were disabled children. So yes, this is a crime infested area, come packing a gun for protection, and don't go anywhere without your mace. I'm sorry to say that I am not kidding.

Crime Infested ????????? HARDLY, that's not even CLOSE to being accurate about Sarasota ! Is there crime ?? btw as you may know, the school teacher who you said was accused of 'hitting' students, I think it was found to have no basis in fact, and the teacher had to be reinstated

Sarasota Baker of Muffins... just a little note to say that I lived there for 25 years and the crime is not peaches and cream as you think. I was very close nit with the city police and they told me some stories that would blow your mind. Only you dont hear about that in Sarasotas paper, only others far away from it. God forbid anyone should scare away the frail money grubbing Long-nose Key residents. This city is not meant for anyone that has a family and is not independently wealthy. Five years ago, if you were single, you could work 2 or 3 regular jobs and make it... now your lucky if you find ONE. The rents did not lower, even though the housing market did. Neither did property taxes. I moved out of there 2 months ago, good riddance.

ALTHEI_LOVE : your comments are truly your own, but your thinly-veiled, sneaky, anti-Semitic comments of BELOW absolutely destroy your credibility: "" God forbid anyone should scare away the frail money grubbing Long-nose Key residents. """ Everybody here in Sarasota-Manatee knows that your nomenclature of "long-nose key" refers in a typical racist way to the many Jewish residents on the Key....combined with "money grubbing" You, my friend are a REDNECK, and probably a poorazz one at that !! I see your location thats "Douglas,Georgia" ! How appropriate for you. And YOU have the nerve to say "good riddance" ??? Funny stuff ! I'm sure NOBODY here in Sarasota, the Key, Siesta, LWR, Manatee, downtown, or anywhere else will MISS your redneck, antiSemetic, dumbazz I too know/knew a ton of Sarasota City, County, Manatee Police, like my old friend Doug P., who patrolled the waters, and a ton of other fine officers ! nobody said the area is crime free ! that's silly ! where there is money, jealousy, drugs, and people, there will always be crime. TO suggest that the Sarasota Herald Tribune or any other media does not highlight or report crime here is absolutely bullchit, and false...unless you are one illiterate hillbilly. Sounds to me, you're just another 'sunchasing' angry LOSER of a redneck. If Georgia doesn't workout for you, you might try 1) Jackson, Mississippi 2) Pine Bluff, Arkansas 3) Montgomery, Alabama 4) Memphis, TN 5) West Monroe, LA You'll fit right in, quickly

My husband, son and I are planning a move to Sarasota in the summer of 2010. I have read many great things about the school system in Sarasota County. I look forward to us settling in the town of Osprey, Laurel, or Venice; we have yet to decide. My son is 5 years old and will be in first grade next year. My husband is a mechanic for Ford and I am a licensed Realtor. Based on the many posts I've read, residents apparently need to be wealthy to live in Sarasota. Is this completely true? We would be moving to from Plantation, FL, a suburb in Fort Lauderdale. And the reason is to raise a family in a small, quiet, family friendly area. Any and all suggestions of affordable areas like these are welcomed. Thank you!

I've lived on the east coast of FL (Boca), I prefer the Sarasota area to just about anywhere on the east coast of FL. Sarasota is not cheap for sure, but it's not necessarily over the top either in certain places ! believe me, there are worse, much worse places to contemplate a move !(like New Orleans, Detroit, Jacksonville, LA, NYC, Memphis, or International Falls, MN !!) good luck and have fun

Ryan wrote: Hello All, I plan on moving to Sarasota towards the end of June and am looking for some information from locals. I am a 23 year old vegetarian who will be looking to meet conscious, open and non-judgemental people. I read there are drum circles that form on the beaches out there quite often.. is this true? Also, are there nice parks out there? I currently live in Worcester, MA and the general attitude up here is very closed and judgemental. Thanks for and replies!:) I moved into the Brasota area and lived there for about 15 years. The beaches are beautiful and there is a lot to see and do. It's very costly to live in Sarasota, but you can move a few miles up to the Bradenton area and find affordable living. I lived in Bradenton and commuted to Sarasota to work. I know my response is a bit late, but hope maybe it helps.:)
