Nobody here has a comment about this cult that's based right in your backyard?

You talking about that organization in El Cajon? Yes, I stopped by a couple years ago. My impression was that it is a religious organization with a story unlike anything else I've hear before. It seems a little fanciful with a worship of a extraterrestial race of people who came to Earth to show us the way. When you think about it, it is no more far out than anything other religion. It was not for me, but at least they seemed peaceful

Wow! Someone finally responded to my thread!
T-falcon, Unarius is not as radical as, for example, Heaven's Gate. But still strange. I dated a gal years ago who heard of them on the radio (or TV?) and got sucked in. Left me and N. Carolina and moved to El Cajon. |

Yeah, they were strangely 'detached' when I went by on that one visit... I found their whole premise a little fantastic and illogical... Some questions they pose, for example could really be answered with a little astrological knowledge and an understanding in physics - but Hale Bopp crazy? nah, I didn't get that vibe... But I couldn't make a link to what their literature was talking about - there was no 'ah-ha' discovery moment during my visit....

T-falcon, I'm surprised you and I are the only one's talking about this group. Maybe those on this board are more interested in car crashes and the like!
With more research I sadly found out the girl I talked about (above) passed away in 2006. Only 47. When she heard about Unarius back in 1983 she latched on and never let go. There's a lot of people who study cults and why people join them. Lots of books out there. I just read one on Unarius specifically. A professor from California State University, Sacramento wrote it after hanging with the group for years. Interesting read, especially if you know someone who got snagged by them. |

Hey Glasspilot... so sorry to hear about the poor young lady you dated. I thought about Unarius the other day, when I drove thru main street El Cajon. I was mildly curious as to what they were up to that day, at that time. I certainly have the answers to the cosmos and the questions beyond. I think people need to believe in something and if the accepted system of things don't have a place for you, then I guess you gravitate to the the belief that you can get behind.. hunhhhh, curious....

Thanks Falcon:
Ya, some people need to believe stuff like that. As if real life is not exciting enough! When I see some of their videos on youtube I just shake my head, crazy stuff. This gal and I had a great time but did not see eye to eye on Unarius. Thanks for talking here on Topix. |
