Well I am not from Freeport, but I vote Tony Cornman. He is the most qualified for the job. Plus he has a good relationship with the surrounding county Sheriff departments.

I do live in Freeport and believe Rick Brown is the best person for the job. Just visit the Freeport Cafe and ask the people there who they like. Or go to the Bruce Cafe and see who they like. Or check around Portland, or Darlington or north of 90 on 331 north,
Rick is honest, approachable, knowledgable, fair, speaks his mind and strongly believes the deputies need a better leader.

Tony does not live in Walton County. He can not vote in Walton County or support other candidates such Commissioners (whom he will need to work closely with). It's like running for president in another country. He specializes in Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms. What about all the other crimes? Is he up to standards with major crimes other than ATF?

Hum,
Your post is filled with misinformation. Support for county commisioners doesn't end at the county line. While Cornman doesn't live in Walton, that doesn't mean he doesn't support the Walton County Commission. As stated here, in the papers, and on other forums, Cornman will be living in Walton County before he takes the Oath of Office. That is all that the state law requires. The County Commision would welcome a chance to work with any elected official, and their residency prior to taking office has no bearing on any issue. You are also confused on Cornman's employment. Cornman does not work for Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms. As a matter of fact, there is no ATF. It is now ATFE (Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.) ATFE is a federal agency. Cornman works for the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, which is a state agency. General law enforcement duties are the responsibility of deputy sheriffs and police officers. Specialization is a fact of life. The days where a sheriff has to know every law and rule have been gone for decades. This may be a shock to you but a sheriff doesn't even need to be a law enforcement officer under Florida law.

Ok, where does it say a sheriff has to be a great law enforcement officer. The current sheriff has been in law enforcement for 25 plus years. This is an agency head with a large budget. He has a whole lot of law enforcement officer sunder him. Yes, he needs to know about law enformcent, but the job of the sheriff is to manage a large deprtmant and employees. The captains make most decisions about the day to day running of the shifts. When it comes to who to put where, how to get the budget right, where to get grants, how to get support of the other constiuttional officers and public, and all the other aspects, we need someone with good managment skills first.

Right now I am divided between Tony Cornman (yes he is part of Walton and can run as long as he moves here before being sworn in) for his knowlagd and character. I also like Mike Adkinson as he has managed the DFS PD, bringing it out of the dark ages and has experience in law enforcment and supervision. Both of these men also can work for the whole county, not just one place.
