Mill Valley Whole Foods 'coming soon' - but when?

Full story: Marin Independent Journal

A sign announcing "Whole Foods Market coming soon" went up last week at the Alto Shopping Center in Mill Valley, but it couldn't be soon enough for some local residents and merchants.

The idea that WF leased the old Albertson's space to keep Trader Joe's out of Mill Valley is not unsurprising. It is quite simply a cutthroat business decision, but one that has obviously caused those merchants mentioned above unnecessary harm. Those frequenting Whole Paycheck should review whether their favorite store is really a good citizen and neighbor.

It's weird that this article didn't mention that the other mill valley whole foods is closing. That's been a known fact for a while now.

The reality of the situation is that Whole Foods has numerous stores in development in Northern California. Most of the sites are old Albertsons that were likely all puchased in a package, not individually. While keeping Trader Joes out is certainly a perk; I doubt that was the ONLY intention as stated above.

I guess all the TJ's shoppers will have to buy their slave labor shrimp elsewhere...

Both Whole Foods, and Trader Joe's stores (Mill Valley/San Rafael) were inconvenient stores to shop since parking was dismal.
Trader Joe's is supposedly going into the Crown Books location next to Cost Plus in Greenbrae. Parking is better, especially if the parking behind the mall is reconfigured to expand availability, and it is much closer for Southern Marin residents. Both moves are a win-win for consumers!

and by the way....... whole foods totally rocks!!!!!!!!!! the deli, the salad bar,the fruits and vegetables, the meat and fish departments, just to begin with, are so incredibly superior to any other market, especially the god awful safeway, that i can't even believe that people actually buy and eat some of the garbage their "competitors" sell. yeah it's more expensive of course,so buy less, the quality is sooooooo much better!

I will be happy to have a Whole Foods in the Alto Center, because that is where my bank is, the post office, pizza and Longs are. One stop shopping saves fuel and time. I hope the parking lot can handle the increased volume, also I hope Whole Foods will be able in increase isle width more than the Miller Ave. store, the city of M.V. will not allow changes like that at the Miller Ave. store.

If there is any question about Whole Foods and its new market in Mill Valley, then it is likely that their new store in Novato now under construction is REALLY not going to be opened anytime soon.

It would be nice if the IJ could get information about the Novato location after providing such coverage of the Mill Valley situation. Evidently Whole Foods makes no direct announcements about their projects--this article was based in part on a sign posted at the shopping center!!

The word on the street in Novato is that Whole Foods is going to bail out of the Grant Avenue project shortly after the concrete has dried, leaving that town with what will amount to just another condo project.

Whole Foods is a total scam. Overpriced food that is so-so, including the factory-farmed beef, presented in the woodsy decor draws in yuppies and other suckers. Kind of like cell phones meet Boston ferns. Conspicuous consumers convincing themselves that they have a social conscience.

Do you notice that Whole Foods employees are not as cheery as in prior years? I guess is that they were happier when the stock price of the company was soaring. It has been going steadily down from its high. And what the employees get are mostly Incentive Stock Options.

Whole Foods shoppers are health conscious, but as a group are no more environmentally friendly than the general public. Just see all those monster cars at Whole Foods.

Mil Valley is a little haven for trust fund babies, midgets on stilts with noses up in the air. The town demonstrates how excess and greed combine in the worst self serving ways. The people milling about are so sensitized to discomfort, they couldn't handle a crisis, which for them would be a tiny bird dropping on their new bmw. The entire town should be soaked with cheap soy oil and dipped in a bucket of pubic hair.

Daily Horoscope for November 25

The Moon blends well with Mercury, letting your intuition lead you to success. Go with a hunch today and see where it leads you; this is one of those times when your analytical mind will only get in the way. It may be a little harder to express yourself, but there's something to be said about using fewer words to convey your meaning.
