Gangs is all about pride. And if is what they really care about they should use it for a good cause. What's sad is that they are so smart they have two languages. They should take advantage of it and do some thing positive with their life and stop believing that they have no family. As for the parents they need to stop complaining and nagging them and talk with them and try to understand what they are searching for. It's not the teens fault most of the time. It can also be the parents fault as well.

I'm sorry to say Mr SAW1341, it's not only Mexican that have gangs. All cultures in USA have gangs. Yes even the whites. So be a deeper thinker and not so quick to point fingers.

kids in this town don't they'll ever leave, they don't have dreams, no ones pushing them and giving them a reason to though. im young, i graduated in 07 from the new high school in santa maria...pioneer, might be a little different culture and atmosphere there based on it being new and all but really, kids don't think they're going to do anything with their lives. there are a few that have their goals and do their best to achieve them, but for the majority, its whatever, they'll get their 12 dollar an hour job and hold onto it for years and stay in santa maria, they don't believe and they don't know what's out there. this city has nothing. really, i mean where can you work in this city and make a decent living? there needs to be a few bigger companies with a few higher paying jobs so people have something to work towards and work for. we're pretty isolated here. twenty minutes north or south before we get anywhere that actually has anything. theres just so much to say about this matter and i don't have the time.

Whatever is right, there is nothing in that retirment town but rich folks and gang bangers... 15 years ago it was a very nice community to live in but the mexican gangs (MS13) stopped that.

im from atlanta, ga but i grew up back n forth between atl and the central coast. dont get it twisted there are gangs out there, but there isnt a gang problem. compared 2 the large cities in california and all across the united states nipomo and santa maria have nothing 2 worry about, atleast not now anyway. but soon sum gangs will fued and others will make alliances. 2 stop gangs in any part of america is impossible, and it is almost impossible 2 contain them. the way 2 slow down gang-related crime is by giving youth something 2 live 4. i grew up in east lake on the eastside of atlanta and there has always been gangs there since the 1800's. on the eastside there mainly crips, gangster disciples, and various hispanic gangs. on the westide and southside theres hispanic gangs, bloods, crips and alot of original atl gangs. i grew up with rollin 20 crips all my life and when i was younger i didnt care about living. now i use my graffiti art skills for work and im in college for video production planning 2 later make movies and documentaries about surving and thriving through life as adulesent gangster while still living for a goal. truth be told most kids wont get out of a gang even if u find an alterative for them. but what they will do is become a smart gangster and use there street smarts while gaining the education as a nessecity of civil society. im only 17 and truth is im still a crip and i always will be but i wont always stand 4 everything they do.
