Meteorite streaks across NM sky

I can't believe that I(we) was one of the few to see it. This late in my life, too. My sister and I were returning to Albuquerque from Mora, NM between 9:30 and 10:00 pm Thursday night when this huge red ball streaked across the sky. We tried to decide what it could be. When I saw that a rocket had been shot at the moon, I thought it might have been the booster rocket re-entering the atmosphere, but we both said "wow, it looks like it is really close".
Now, we find out that it really was a comet. I am now wondering where it landed. Whew!!!

Are you sure it wasn't the gov, the basketball being his head, the car his body!!

Zeus must have been really pissed off about something.

It's getting close to time for the Orionids Meteor Shower which will peak on Oct. 21.

did you hear any sounds like thunder or sonic boom?

a ball of fire hit area 7 near shiprock, scattered fire all over the place. next day area was sealed off and they (?) covered it and hauled it away. this was never reported to the news.

prison guard hit by meteorite 9july09 940pm wilkes-barre,pa 18702 bean shaped greyish/ tan color under bright sunlight. has 2 burn marks/ one on each side/has small clear stones on exterior. need help anyone with identification. acesand@live.com

Maybr it was an alien UFO that overshot the landing zone in Roswell.

I saw it from my front door step in Taos! I woke up in the middle of the night because of a loud hum.(Yes, perhaps THE Taos Hum.) I was standing outside, facing EAST, when I saw what I thought was a large shooting star that had red around it. It "fizzled" out over the mountains due east of Taos. I was calculating NASA's LCROSS project and thought maybe it went off early. Now I see the meteor was a separate spectical!

Nah, they were just taking the scenic route to Moscow.

It wasn't a comet. Comets stay in orbit. Meteorites don't.

the taos hum huh, thats a new one for me :-)
i asked the tv station to check the radar, sometimes the vaporization cloud can be seen and makes recovery of meteorite fragments possible. thanks for the info, don
