Battle over proposed MTA tax heats up

I love the high cost of fuel. I was able to sail up the Sunset Strip this evening at 6 P.M. and there was no traffic. If you cannot afford to drive you stay home or take the bus.

We just went through this bs bond measure last election enacting new funds to be wasted in transportation, and schools. the money was completely wasted on studying this and funding things like lunches for poor people. how many times will stupid people keep voting themselves into poverty?
No instead of adding more freeway lanes improving off ramps and adding turn lanes the things that actually help traffic they want to add subways to the sea or rail lines to move thugs and criminals from the ghetto to the west side to make carjacking and killing that much easier. my neighbor was beaten and carjacked in her home raped and left within an inch of her life a few years ago by two blacks from south central who rode the wonderful mta to commit there crime. we need transportation that works not pet projects and in this economy we don't need more taxes. |

Profit Spells Growth: Any business organization that receives money must pay all their expenses and wages to employees and still have money left over for growth. When it does not have a left-over, then there exist an ailment. Once you add taxes it stays and so I am against additional taxes. Increased revenues should be determined by the ridership.

They will be fighting over this loot for months!!!

Stop giving money and services to illegal aliens. There is the money you need for more transit projects. The sooner we quit giving money and services to illegals the sooner they will leave!

Particularly, it doesn't matter to me because I wouldn't vote for it even if they ammended the proposition to give a rose to every rider who boards the bus/train. The bottom line is it's a tax, no matter how pretty you dress it up as. Between the 1% that Schwarz is trying to get approved, the Jan Perry Hood Wink Tax, the bonds, and every other cost spending initiative approved, many people will be living at the Whirlpool Apartments underneath some freeway bridge. It's very easy to propose a tax when you make 150-350K per year. What's $36.00 here, a couple of hundred there, and a thousand here and there when you make that kind of money? The problem is our illustrious law makers, city council, MTA supervisors, county supervisors, and everyone inbetween has failed to recognize is that wages aren't keeping up with inflation and the general standard of living. Our disposable income is shrinking and going to indisposable needs. Now what little we have left is supposed to go to projects that fund things like Subway to the Sea? WHO CARES ABOUT A DAMN SUBWAY THAT RUNS TO THE OCEAN!?! Are there jobs out there or is this for recreation purposes? Because I'm telling you now if it's for recreation, there won't be anyone riding it because they won't be able to afford a fun day.
WAKE UP YOU FOOLS that are called elected officials! 1 bedroom apartments are rising between 1,200-2,000! Basic produce has jumped record levels in short periods of time! Restaurants are raising prices between 1-5 dollars depending on the dish! Utilities are going up because the council robbed the DWP illegally for years and because of it, no upgrades were done and a fire fighter died. Then all the sudden, the answer was to make the taxpayers pay for the upgrades with rate increases?! If I could leave LA and CA, I would. |

No more extortion!!!
No more blood money!!! No more Bullsh*t!!! Get your greedy hands out of our pockets...or we will start cutting off your fingers! |

MTA doesn't need more money, it needs fewer passengers. I ride Metro from the Valley, and at 5:40 a.m. the 60-foot articulated bus is a sardine can packed 90% full of nannies, gardeners, and handymen for the Westside. I say tax the NIMBYs to build high-density, local subsidized housing for their multitudinous servants, who will then be able to walk to work.
Yeah, that'll happen. |

Let the people who are going to use these transit lines pay for it themselves. Why tax the county residents for L.A. City improvement. The west side claims the Gridlock is from the SF Valley. Well, L.A. gets most of its taxes from the San Fernando Valley and they should have used some of those funds for road improvements. Oh yeah, that money goes to scantuary city policies and free lunches for the poor and illegals. New for the poor, if you can't afford to feed you kids, stop having sex and make taxpayer pay for your cockroach kids.

Those who are genuinely concerned about the proposed transportation sales tax measure are invited to attend this Saturday's meeting of Southern California Transit Advocates, where Metro Board member Pam O'Connor will be the guest speaker.
Our meetings are held in the 4th floor community room of Angelus Plaza, 311 S. Hill St., one block north of Pershing Square Red/Purple Line Station (the location is also served by several bus lines, including 4, 10, 81 and 94). The meeting begins at 1:00pm. |

If the majority of the money is going to LA City Westside, and LA City Mayor, the LA City counsel people and the MTA Board is so concerned about the gridlocked conditions, then there are two things they can do: Control the growth, until they fix the intrastructure (yeah, it means not giving money to their favor developers in exchange for campaign money - I think that call pay to play-which I think is a criminal act);or tax folks who are most effective by this traffic problem. There is traffic all over the County, why should I, as a County resident, pay for somewhere I don't go---I don't work on the Westside and I don't go to the Santa Monica beaches. I traveled on the freeways to get to my Valley job and I go to Ventura beaches. Let consider the County traffic needs as opposed to one section of the City needs. If LA City Mayor is so set on his pet project to get a subway to the sea, then let the people who voted for him pay for his pet project. Right on Mike Antonovich! I support you in your decision.

You're breaking the backs of the taxpayers! Bond measures and new taxes
will not fix the problem. The out-of-control spending needs to stop! Government bloat, lack of accountability and irresponsible spending is killing off the working stiff who up until now has provided the revenue stream. I, for one, am looking for a kindler, gentler state where the state and local govements don't bleed their citizenry dry. The Valley and greater LA will soone be a great place to be from, and pity the poor schmucks who hang around for more abuse. |

Well, Nedly, if criminals come in cars, should we get rid of cars?
Hello, Dave, are we only going to let LA City residents use the train? Mr. County Resident (in Illinois?): what you are asking for is called toll roads - only the users pay. How about that? People all over the county are paying for your freeway to the Valley and to Ventura. I don't go there - why should I pay for you? Antonovich, Molina and Knabe are afraid. Why not let the voters decide? Antonovich already has his Gold Line, and Molina, too, all through East LA. I guarantee the Westside pays more taxes than the Antelope Valley and East LA combined. Why shouldn't they get a subway? It's only 10% of the money. |
|
|
Let's see, if I move just 10 miles west or north or south, or east; I would not live inside LA City boundaries. If I move to Thousand Oaks, I'm in Ventura County. I feel a move coming on, if these guys tax use any more or if Tony Villar is re-elected.
They will not bleed me dry and lie to me anymore!!!! |
|
|
Well Madam_S if the Westsiders pay more in taxes than the Antelope Valley and East LA combined, then there is no argument, go ahead and pay for the "Subway to the Sea" and continue supporting your idiotic City government, just don't ask me to pay for the crooks and idiots in LA City Hall.
Pay on! Pay on! Pay on! |

We're always free to vote with our feet. The grass is always greener on the other side. Find a better place and move there. A big metro area like LA needs certain things, like subways, and they have to be paid for. If you don't like that, you can move to the country somewhere (you won't have to worry about a tax for subways in Bakersfield, for example). Don't pretend that LA isn't a big city.

1 To our wonderful elected officials we are already being taxed to death while the money is used for other things other than what it is supposed to be used for. To drag queen... it's not as simple as if you can't afford to drive, take the bus. Some jobs don't pay a lot even professional ones but one needs a car to do home visits so one couldn't take the bus. If our elected officials would enforce our immigration laws that would resolve a number of issues. Madam S you remind me of the people of yesteryear when people told folks if you don't like the war leave America. What part of seniors can't afford to move somewhere else do you NOT understand? The Valley should have said no to LA just like Burbank did and gone to court if necessary when LA creeped over the hill. I lived in LA for many years until I got smart and moved to Burbank. However, I may have to move out LA county and probably will if we continue to be taxed to death. |
