Fires rip through historic Big Sur - Santa Cruz Sentinel

Like snowflakes, ash drifts across the elegant patio of the Ventana Inn & Spa. Smoke and fog veils vast Pacific views.

So, so sad to see that landscape go up in smoke. I've had good times at the Ventana Inn. It's very cool that the firefighters are eating all that great food and enjoying the pools at Ventana. They deserve it.

I think it is a tragedy that the fires in California are burning but I think the folks in Big Sur are awesome for helping eachother out and being so amazing to the firefighters. Firefighters work so hard to help and save lives and properties and I think they are truely angels. Thank God for all of them And thanks for all the amazing help

I have never understood why the state has never acquired those Canadian type super scooper planes.

Yes, mow road flanks to prevent rapid spread of wildfire. Public agencies which neglect to do so should be sued.
Volunteerism to do the public agencies' responsibilities is order in this extremely urgent fire year in California. Beat back the dead grass, overgrown brush and dead tree limbs adjacent to roads, buildings and other critical points of infrastructure. Remember 'Smokey the Bear': "Only you can prevent forest fire."

It's been a dry year, but the real reason is poor forest management. You let all that underbrush grow unchecked for decades, and years like this become inevitable.

We need to look at the German model to see how its effectively done

Ventana Inn offers firefighters showers at its clothing-optional pool.

Nepenthe volunteered its Webcam so families of firefighters could view their loved ones...
Thank you for sharing.
