Obama delivers fiery speech to Democrats on stimulus
RAW STORY
Published: Thursday February 5, 2009

WASHINGTON (AFP)– President Barack Obama has fired a biting campaign-style attack on Republicans and the former Bush administration, seeking to drive his 900 billion dollar stimulus plan through Congress.

As a debate in the Senate raced to a tense climax, the president rejected Republican complaints the package was too large and lacks sufficient tax cuts, seeking to turn his election win last November into political dominance.

He took his debut flight as president on Air Force One to a retreat of Democratic House of Representatives members in Virginia, and delivered the most combative and partisan speech since taking office last month.

In searing attacks on Republicans, Obama said Americans had not voted for "false theories of the past and they didn't vote for phony arguments and petty politics."

"They didn't vote for the status quo, they sent us here to bring change. We owe it to them to deliver," a fired up Obama said at a resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.

"This is the moment for leadership that matches the great test of our times."

The president also rejected Republican arguments that the massive stimulus plan should be defeated because it will expand the budget deficit, which is already heading for more than one trillion dollars.

"I found this deficit when I showed up," Obama said, in a clear swipe at the administration of former president George W. Bush.

"I found this a national debt double wrapped in a big bow waiting for me as I stepped into the Oval Office," he said.

Obama also Thursday set a date for a primetime news conference on Monday night, the first of his presidency.

Earlier the president told lawmakers the "time for talk is over," with dismal unemployment figures released on Thursday and more expected Friday, reflecting the depth of the worst economic crisis since the 1930s.

"These numbers that we are seeing are sending an unmistakable message, and so are the American people," Obama said, as senators haggled over the details of the bill, which combines tax cuts and infrastructure spending, in an increasingly ill-tempered debate.

"The time for talk is over, the time for action is now because we know that if we do not act, a bad situation will become dramatically worse," Obama said.

The cable television media and Washington insiders are making it look like the people are against the stimilus package. In fact, people watching their local news are finding that everyone is behind our President. I was so proud of him last night. It was so great to see a real leader--one with a working brain!

For Obama campaign advisors, there's no sure thing
Many liberal loyalists anticipated jobs in the new administration, but the president has filled out his foreign policy team largely with centrists connected to Clinton or the GOP.

By Paul Richter
February 11, 2009
Reporting from Washington --

The spoils go to the victors in politics, and usually a candidate's campaign advisors are generously rewarded with top jobs in the government when an election is won.

The exception has been President Obama's team of campaign foreign policy advisors, who have fared poorly in the new administration's frantic job competition. The president, who ran as a liberal, has filled out his government with appointees more in the political center.

Obama had more than 300 foreign policy and military experts advising his campaign, including many original Iraq war opponents. Most held views somewhat to the left of those of his chief Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose team included more original Iraq war supporters.

But prospects for the Obama supporters dimmed when the new president gave control of the three biggest national security fiefdoms to Clinton as his new secretary of State, holdover Robert M. Gates as Defense secretary, and retired Marine Gen. James L. Jones Jr. as national security advisor.

Now, with the national security jobs nearly filled, the Clinton team is dominating the senior ranks of the State Department and the Pentagon. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice has the highest-ranking job for an Obama team member, but the post has not been traditionally considered a Cabinet-level position.

Steven C. Clemons, a foreign policy specialist at the New America Foundation, a Washington think tank, described the job scramble as a game of musical chairs in which the Obama squad members have often found themselves without a chair.

"If they're not running into Hillary people, they're running into Republicans," he said.

Poll: With 69 percent approval, Obama has political firepower

BY STEVEN THOMMA
MCCLATCHY NEWSPAPERS

WASHINGTON — Nearly seven in ten Americans approve of the way President Barack Obama is doing his job, giving him enormous political capital as he pushes Congress to give him unprecedented tools to fight economic crisis, according to a new McClatchy-Ipsos poll.

Obama outpolls Congress by more than 30 points, and he also can point to an uptick in the number of people who think the country's headed in the right direction even as a majority thinks the worst is yet to come in the economy.

The survey found that 69 percent of Americans approve of Obama's performance — with a robust 38 percent "strongly" approving.

At the same time, 26 percent disapprove of the way he's doing his job, with 12 percent "strongly" disapproving.

Berry Soretoro (BarrackObama's birth cer I have pictures of a regular birth certificate and a picture of a certification of a birt.
There is very little simblance between them, as far as styling printing. information, exc, exc.
I always thought a person had to prove he was of legal age, and that he was a citizen.
Now let me state a big difference in what Obame produced. He did not prsent a certificate of live birth, but a crtification of live birth. two completly different documents.
I think some one should research this situation more closely.

Poor, poor, poor Putter, you must not listen very closely, the SWIFTboating OBAMA Talking Heads of Rex Tackett's KXYL 96.9FM DO indeed talk of these type of reports. Putter appears to be just another KXYL supporting liar ! Who's really surprised ? Maybe KXYL's "Mocking and Misleading" Mike Cope will bring on his GAY friends from Dallas for a personal interview on the report you posted and then James Ray Williams could buy them some tasty drinks like he claimed to do for GAY soldiers down in San Antonio !

Younger versus older gay men: risks, pleasures and dangers of anal sex

This study reports on the practice and the pleasure and danger perceptions of protected and unprotected anal sex of young adult gay men ( 30) and older gay men (30+). It is assumed that, if prevention efforts were successful, younger gay men-sexually socialized during the AIDS era-should have more favorable perceptions of anal sex with a condom. Data from a cohort of gay men in Flanders, Belgium (1993, n = 553) are used in this analysis. The results indicate that younger gay men do not differ from older gay men in the riskiness/safety of their actual sexual behavior. However, younger men hold different valuations regarding anal sex. They report a higher appraisal for both insertive and receptive anal sex with a condom. The perceived safety of protected anal sex is also higher among the younger men. We also found that younger men with a steady partner report more gratification from insertive anal sex with a condom than do older partnered men. We interpret these findings as evidence of the effectiveness of HIV prevention efforts.
