ive been here for 23 years.the beach and town are basically an old run down area that craves tourists but has improved nothing.run down roads clogged streets liitle or nothing to do-for entertainment.its a circus for young drunk partied out people who only want to get high or drunk.no focus to maintaing the beach the area-nothing.instead of worrying about jazella moore-put monies into rejuvenating a place that was once very lovely.it shouldnt even advertise itself as a tourist destination at all-more like a crammed parking lot of failed policies and overpriced so called businesses

tom, the town was focusing on improving the area: it was taking out the trash (by getting rid of the porn queen._ To raise money for the improvements you'd like, maybe you could organize a fund raiser.

Lee County which takes all the taxes, both property and Tourist development taxes, has put nothing into the Town of Fort Myers Beach, but spent 25-million on a new Red Sox Ball park. I agree with Tom, but the problem is a lack of direction and leadership at the council level. Out of the 20-million in taxes collected at the Town's level, over 75% of it goes to administration. We've created a town government to help create jobs for them. We would be better off, un-incorporating and just donating the money for Town improvements.

Could out tax $ be used more wisely? Surely. Could the town be cleaned-up a bit? I think so. However, have you looked around outside the island lately?! The whole country and particularly FL is suffering from dwindling funds. It may get better when the housing market finally comes back around, but I'm not sure it will every be a really booming area anytime in my lifetime (and I'm only 45.)
Regrading the partying, if you want a quieter, more "dignified" place to live, might I suggest Sanibel or Captiva? You live on one of the cheapest islands I can think of in the US, so it is inevitable that it attracts the younger set that don't have as much $ to spend and, guess what, they want to have a good time. Pure economics. My only gripe with the younger set is I wish they were more diligent about cleaning up their mess on the beach when they leave for the day. But all things considered, the city needs the $ they bring to us, so we can't just keep the public out.(Not that I'd want to anyway.) |

fort myers beach will never inprove untill the people quit voting in members of the union....the chambers of commerse is the union that runs fort myers beach........i would like to see a audit of time spent at meetings for adding sand to beach that the people do not want but the union wants...i would bet it is well over 100,000 dollars for the town lawyer who is there for all meetings
