Wish it were so, but in the Baltimore Washington corridor home invasions are on the rise. Staying home and watching TV is no guarantee of safety. I’ll bet you every one of those victims now owns a gun and keeps it handy in their home. What they found out was that they could be dead in the time it takes to dial 911, let alone wait for a voice on the other end, or worse, wait for the police to show up.<quoted text>
Now , when the Founding Fathers penned the Law, did they mean that Americans could only use sticks and stones, or were the people carrying the same arms the Government issued to the Army? If so, every person on this forum is abusing the First Amendment by expressing themselves freely on the internet.
Boy, yeah, the gun deaths around us. Dropping like flies they are.
Go look up how many people in anyones area drowned in a pool, then look at shooting.
Man, this is great for getting votes! Americans should all just stay home and watch TV, that way no one will ever ever ever get hurt.
Great thinking.

I think you misunderstood my reply. I was advocating interpreting the Constitution with a clear understanding of the context in which it was written and I am opposed to those who choose to assert that it is subject to any wind of opinion that comes along today. I believe that the 2nd Amendment acknowledges (not entitles) the right of self defense and hence the right to possess and use weapons that are sufficient to prevent would-be tyrants from easily gaining power over the people or criminals who would deprive the citizen of their life, liberty or property.. This thinking permits private ownership by responsible citizens of firearms of all types that may be carried about their person. It excludes weapons of a combat nature that require transport by other means such as cannons, large very high capacity fully automatic weapons that require mounting on hard points, airborne armaments, etc. Hope that clears it up. |

Oh, so how do the two of you measure up to his academic achievement? Not to mention that this man you accuse of being dumb has managed to become the leader of the worlds only superpower for two full terms. We apparently have a different definition of the word “dumb.” Maybe what you really mean is something along the lines of,“I hate him and am not smart enough to express why, so Ill just call him dumb.” |

All the more reason for me to be armed...in case some deranged/depressed person does decide to go on a killing spree, I will have an effective weapon with which to defend myself. FYI...you can own an rpg, Abrams tank, or a bazooka. Good luck find ammunition for it though. They also make poor defensive weapons (too big to conceal, heavy and bulky (especially a tank, LOL) and have a very low cycle rate). And if the bad guys out there are carrying fully automatic weapons with which to harm others, I should have EVERY right to carry one myself. |

Yeah, the Atl-office told me that as long as you don't use it like every year, it never expires. Plus - the VA inspector found issues we would've never found. It's a really good deal, IMO. |

Being ex-UDT and still cert'd, I think as long as you're allowed to carry and conceal a firearm, I should be allowed to carry and conceal a couple butter sticks of C-4 and some caps, agreed? |
I haven't used my VA home loan benefits yet, but am planning to sometime in the not-so-distant future. Is the process difficult? Anything I should know going into the process? |
|
Well that depends...is C4 and blasting caps in common usage by the population? If not, well the US Supreme Court disagrees with you... |
|
Why not? I do think you'll probably agree C-4 is a poor choice for self-defense. Was your December in great Lakes '68 or '69? If it was '68, what company? Whites under a pea coat for hell week, great times, huh? |

If you're VFW, then they'll be able to point you in right direction, otherwise, like I said, Military.com is an outstanding choice too. The process' only hangups are that they only loan the money on a used home and if the inspector finds anything wrong, the current owner is required to repair them - normally at their own cost. The current owner should also be aware that you're going through the VA for the loan ahead of time - alot of homeowners nowadays don't want to deal with the VA because of all the red tape - we closed on our's three weeks after making the offer. |

What kind of predators were they worried about? I bet not the four-legged kind.
