I commend the guys at Sand Springs Public Works taking the initiative and stepping up to the plate. This is a PRIME example of what should be a continued approach in good times as well as bad. Granted, you can't do much but give them a pat on the back these days. I hope you can at least take them out to a nice lunch considering the costs that were saved.

I think they should be given a day off with pay and a free meal for the willingnes to do something like this. A lot of people would just set back and say, that aint my problem, let them buy new. NO,, these guys care and S.S. people should be proud of them.

I live near enough to Sand Springs to be affected by this. Great idea! Way to save money and make things stretch a little further.

But I will also say that Sand Springs' budget wouldn't be so tight every year if the city council would actually allow more retail development in the city. That would bring in more sales tax revenue, which would help the budget situation some. Just food for thought.

Those guys in maintenance keep the city's fleets moving and are a valuable part of the city team. Way to go! Now they should have a story about how much money could be saved by keeping employees of the city responsible for the vehicles they drive on city buisness ....

Now these guys will sit on their hind ends the rest of the year because in their eyes they did a years worth of work. Probably one of two things they've done all year.
I disagree! These guys are probably rare gems with this kind of ingenuity! I've known others like this and they don't usually sit idle. Too bad more people don't have this kind of talent, especially politicians! I like a person who thinks outside the typical box of throw it out and buy a new one!!! Talk about reduce, reuse, recycle!!!
