World War II veteran said he was no hero. He was.

Full story: TwinCities.com

It's hard to figure out Clarence "Bud" Ollom's highest honor. There's the time he was knighted by the French consul general at Minnesota's Capitol Rotunda.

I just watched footage of the D Day invasion and thought to myself, if I had even 1% of the bravery these men and women showed during WW2 I would be a happy man. Clarence seems typical of WW2 vets, they ask for no thanks. They went proudly and got the job done. They ask of no recognition of the risks they took and the sacrifices they made. I respect this generation so much and feel they deserve the highest of honor. I don't know you Dennis, but I'm sure you are as proud as can be of your father Clarence. Rest assured, I'm sure right now he's doing some catch up with his buddies from the war.

Another one of the generation who truly knew what sacrifice meant is lost. We owe so much to them.

God Bless the Bud Ollum's of this country. The freedoms we take for granted today were paid for on the backs of the incredible people of the "Greatest Generation." It's sad how we keep letting them down by giving up so much of what they fought so hard to keep.

The Paratroopers St. Michael Prayer

Lord God, hear my call, as through the sky I fall.
Satan you once were cast from here.
My static line have hooked to hold,
and then my chute to make unfold.

Suspension lines untangled be
and open my canopy.
From other jumpers float me clear,
As safely down I persevere.

On angels wings, I hit the ground.
My Father's favor, I have found.
In thanks, St. Michael I do pray.
For God has helped me--ALL THE WAY.

A lot of these men never spoke of the heroic deeds that have done.

It is so nice to see all of the respectful comments on this story! I fear that our current generations would decline to serve since Nike was coming out with a new shoe and they couldn't leave until they had a pair! I hope and pray that I am wrong on that point!?honor all who answered the call to duty and served this wonderful country in the military!

The humble dignity shown by a man like this is a lesson for all. We need a few more real heroes like this.

Thanks to Bud and the "Greatest Generation" ,that included my father and all my uncles. When I read Bud's story, and others similar, it humbles me that we walked amoung these heros often without knowing it. Thank you and God Bless you Bud!

Unfortunately most of the next generation coming up, and the new coming immigrants will have no idea of the sacrifices this generation put forth, so they could live in safety and comfort. As for the new immigrants coming in, leave your country ideals and take part in the American ideals. And we will once again have a great country.

Kids - stop thinking its "All about me and me only"

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Cancer

Your powers of concentration are finely honed today, enabling you to focus on something to the exclusion of all else. This is just what you need if you're hoping to make a big dent in your workload or you're doing something very fiddly or detailed. But it's important that you know when to stop, otherwise you might get really weary and lose your effectiveness.
