This is truly heartbreaking. I've been following this story since it broke and this is just a tragic conclusion. I do not know what proof, if any, will ever surface about the mother's fears about the father, but there is never an excuse to murder your own child. This makes me sick to my stomach.

Such a sad, sad story. Not excusing the mom, but hwy eas the dad being allowed an overnight visit if there was even the slightest doubt about what was going on? Perhaps this could have been prevented.

There wasn't the slightest doubt. The court knew, the child advocate knew, everyone knew that the mother had some very serious problems. The child NEVER made accusations.

The child did make accusations, even the night before when he had visitation. This child didn't have it in her to lie or be coaxed. The question is why did the mom feel this was her only option? Why would a good mom get to this point? What would drive someone to this resolution? And, like 'SAD' said - if there was even the sightest doubt, then why would there be visitation? Why isn't group therapy a requirement for an extended period of time to find out where these accusations are coming from???????

I'm a friend of Marcia's and Gillian's. Gillian told. The hospital called the police because of the physical evidence. As I've said before, there is SO much to this, it's too much to try to explain in this type of forum. Gillian did her best to tell. Her school first saw the evidence and called child protective services. You'd think that all these authorities involved would have been enough to stop visitation, but no. It made no sense at the time. It still makes no sense, but the judge will have to live with it. The police weren't done with the investigation. Gillian was in a program to help her talk about what happened. It takes time. The court wouldn't give her the time. A father has rights, you know. More than a child. Even a father with known mental illness, can get his custody without proving he's taking his necessary medications. we need help. Our children need our courts cleaned up! The pendulum for father's rights swung too far. No one looks at the individuals any more.

Why didn't the eldest sister and the former attorney notify the proper authorities. All involved knew of the situation and the accusations. The father was accused of crimes and the court found these accusations to be unsubstantiated. How about the trauma poor Gillian suffered after having to go through during the physical and mental examinations performed upon her by the doctors and psychologists after the mother filed charges against the father. What responsibility does the judge have in this? After all knowing everything and not acting. Please let us all learn from this tragedy and work towards making great changes in the system.

It is just extremely sad that the mother felt her only option was to take her daughter and drown her. Like somebody said already, this was a very complex case involving allegations of sexual abuse and other matters which at this time, were unfounded. That does not mean that nothing happened only, they couldn't prove it at this time. The father does have rights whether we like it or not. The US court system is not perfect and never will be.

I think that there is something you all need to think about. There is more going on in this case than any of you will ever know. As someone who knows the family I want you all to remember, there are still lots of children alive who suffer every day. There is still a family without a mother and sister and you are all sitting there doing nothing to make sure that this doesn't happen again. People keep saying that this could have been prevented but none of them were willing to help. Gillian did talk. Her whole family talked. No one listened. And now you are just sitting there. If it really makes you that sick, then do something about it before you spout off about what you don't know. Also try to remember that any one cane read this. You never know if someone in the family is going to read it. Don't be the cause of more pain.

unless you were in the courtroom (you weren't), unless you saw the 25 different psychological evaluations of parents and child, the numerous medical reports (you didn"t), unless you saw this child with her father in relaxed, normal situations - you can't know. All you know is what the deranged mother told you - and what the deranged mother forced the child to say - she murdered her child - Gillian died a violent death - she was fighting for her life - and marcia took it - after putting her through 6 months of hell with the false accusations and the court case against her father. Look at the record. SHe made the same accusationsa gaisnt her own parents when they tried to help with the older children. You don't know.

Any misinformation comes from Marcia - your source. She put that child through hell - and then she killed her.

Finally someone who sees the truth! The incident that occured the night before this horrible crime went into action was a incident caused by Marcia. It was an outburst that was acted out by Marcia for no apparent reason other than seeing Gillian's father walking her safely to her mothers door. The last look Gillian's father saw on his little girls face was one of disbelief in the way her mother was acting. Probably a look similar to the one she had on that horrible morning! This appears to be a women who lived to ruin this man's life, to win a battle or a war. And she was determined to win even at the cost of her innocent daughter. There were 25, count them, 25 court evaluations that said Marcia's accusations were false. Made up lies. Maybe she was so mentally off balance that she began to believe her own lies. But in the end who won this war? No one. She only succeeded in bringing all this attention to herself and sympathy from all these strangers who are programed to believe that only the mother tells the truth. I am a women and I can tell you that women like her are what gives the rest of us a bad name. I have been around these type of situations enough in my life and my line of work to know not to take these accusations at surface value, to hold judgement until they are proven because there are way to many vendictive people who try to use these horrible issues to there advantage. I know way to many people(men and women) who have been put through the ringer for false statements like this. Some people just have no conscience and Marcia was one of them!

Hey concerned observer, why don't you have some respect and shut your damn mouth, were not in court. Who are you ? do think your doing both families a favor with you, running your mouth. Everyone here is sitting behind their little computers and judging and dissecting ever detail, that no is ever going to know. This was someones daughter, sister, cousin and friend and you all make me sick. People saying I hope she burns in hell or whatever you concerned people might be say. Women like her don't give such a bad name, our society, culture and community to me, is why it got so bad for her. Just stop!! Why don't you talk about how we can HELP! and not let this happen again..

That's a crazy statement! Think about it -
even though a man abuses a little girl, you think it's the woman's fault because she fell for his lies and got together with him to start with? No wonder men don't think they need to take any responsibility - let's blame everything on the women, who should have known better to hook up with a guy who turned out to be mentally imbalanced.
This is just a pure tragic situation, all around. Can't you people just let it be, and stop the judgements?

Crazy statement NOT! Of course it's her fault - for picking the wrong man to father her child. Face it, she made a mistake, and it cost her little girl's and her life. When you go to the market, you pick your fruits and veggies carefully, don't you? How stupid women make stupid mistakes is beyond me! Some women just feel the need for any man in their lives, now who put that into their heads?

Women need to learn, Hawk, that many men (not all of them!) cannot be trusted and need to choose their friends carefully. And as for friends - well you know the old saying "with friends like this, who needs enemies"?

OK, I don't know your son's "situation" and why the State rules, I'm just saying that some men cannot be trusted. The same goes with some women. What I'm trying to say is that the less people you have in your life, the better, and to choose your friends CAREFULLY, especially when young children are in the picture. There are people who will complicate your life and make your life miserable, if you let them. So, my original view is that women need to choose their men wisely, or the consequences can be severe.

People will not take good advice, when you give it to them, I've learned that. So I gave up long ago and now mind my own business.
