Anybody hear or read about the man hanging by the neck off of the pier Thurs 23 July 09?
|
||||
Is this true? did this really happen? Where did you here about this? |
||||
|
We saw it, hanging by a rope around the neck, almost in the middle of the pier, a few feet above the water.

If anyone knows, please post who(Name) hung themself.

I was on the pier that day (Thursday) but didn't see or hear about any hanging suicide. There were plenty of folks fishing off the pier.
Is there a Police Log for the day? The story would have made the newspaper too. |

Yes, I was at the pier the morning of 7/23 and witnessed all the first-responders there with the apparent suicide.. I looked in the paper and on the KSBY website for a follow-up story, but didn't see any. Very strange. I've been hoping to get some "closure" on this, as it definitely affected me!

Wow, you said it just like I would. Need closure; not some morbid fascination! Thanks for confirming my sanity! |

The authorities are probably trying to identify the person and notify the next of kin. Could be an illegal, with no ID.
What time of day was this? I was at the chowder cafe Duckies in morning and again midday, but didn't notice anything unusual. |

I work in Cayucos every day and know something about the man who hung himself. I met him only once, and he was troubled, going through a 'nasty divorce.' He lived over by Schooners and had a little daughter who visited him sometimes. There was a really great band playing outside our place one Sunday, and he said to me, 'this gives me hope; the music is such a healing force. It makes me feel things might be okay.' I worried about him after that, and only saw him peripherally after that. When I heard about the hanging, somehow I knew it was him before I found out.

It is very sad but true. He was not an illegal. Just a very depressed loving man that could not think of his family breaking up. He is in our prayers and in our thoughts.

Thanks for adding comments; I can now let it go...(closure for me).

How sad for the man and for his family.
Cayucos is like Paradise, but tragedy can visit even Paradise. |

There is a strange phenomenon happening in Cayucos. I don't know whether it is the high concentration of artists who live there, or coincidence, but there have been quite a few deaths this year and it is unnerving. All the people have been between fourty and sixty years old; several drownings, quite a few sudden deaths, and now this. Please pray that Death will take a holiday and move on. It is too small a town for such a high concentration of deaths in six months.

Oh dear, I will always come back to this laid-back community, and I am sorry for all the recent deaths going on. I understand why this recent suicide has not been publicized....So sorry that this community has been wracked by such misfortune.

I wasn't aware of the drownings. Cayucos does have miles of beautiful beach without lifeguards. When watching for dolphins and whales, I sometimes see swimmers and kayakers who are very far out in the ocean. If something should happen to them, we might see but there's not much to do to help right away.
The only "rescue" unit I've seen along the Pacific Ave. stretch is the Marine Mammal Rescue organization and their van. |

Hi Beachcomber
The people I can think of off hand are, Alex, Lucille, Paul, Bruce, and Robert. There were several others whose names escape me at the moment. Alex and Lucille washed up over between the pier and the rocks,(several months apart) on the south side. They were not suicides, even though it was implied that they were. I knew Alex and he was doing really well. Lucille never went by the water, so what was she doing IN the water? I'm not hinting at foul play, just strange circumstances. What a morbid discussion. I work at the Smokehouse, so I hear everything. I also have a good view of the ocean. Did you hear about the great white sighting off 4th street? So much happening in the water, that is why I choose to wave at all the wildlife from the shore. ps. I am not trying to scare off any tourists. Our town is a wonderful town, with beautiful people and good weather. Come and play! It is not a dangerous place. Very serene, actually. |

Sightings of Great Whites are always exciting. I know they are out there, looking at those seals and sea lions, maybe otters too. They follow the food. A few years ago a surfer saw one nearby at Old Creek, and there was one seen from the pier. There's more sightings down toward Morro Bay, but maybe because there's more people and boats there. I'd like to know if Great Whites would ever go in the fairly shallow waters of the harbor and sand spit areas, where there are so many seals and sea lions. There are sightings off Montana de Oro too. I didn't know about all those drownings near the pier. If they were not swimming, then what? Fell off rocks? Drunk in the water? The town and shorefront are so quiet at night, anything could happen. Smokehouse food is great. Two tacos are a meal, with greens too! Didn't see the oyster tacos last time I checked the board. |
