Tim Grobaty: Palos Verdes Peninsula history is a whale of a story

Full story: Long Beach Press-Telegram

PV'S PAST IN PICS: We were 10 in 1965 , when Marineland was making its biggest splash on Long Point, one of the many promontories of Palos Verdes Peninsula stabbing out into the deep blue sea.

" We were 10 in 1965 (we'll spare you the math: we're 46)..."
Dude -- if you were 10 in '65 it's been a while since you were 46. Is this denial, humor, or maybe just bad math? Curious readers want to know.

Thanks for clearing up what really happened to Marineland. We never did get the real story in LA.
Marineland was far superior to Sea World and much more fun. Easier to get to. It was a sanctuary and many sealife studies were done there by the staff. As soon as big corporations get they slimy hands on anything, you know it is not going to have
a good outcome. A similar thing happened to the Japanese Deer park and African Safari out on the 405 fwy.

BJH: Yeah, didn't they actually come out and shoot those deer?

Dr. C: I wasn't alive during the G.W. Bush administration.

Yes, they did. Because they were in such bad shape physically.
The birds were a mess too. After the park closed the animals were
still there for a while. I guess to assess their conditions. Someone said that they took them out to the African Safari for food for the lions after they were euthanized. I dont know if that is true though.

Oh, and sorry for the error TIM.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Libra

You're full of empathy and affection today, so it would be a shame not to spread it around. It's a marvellous day for a low-key get-together with some of the people you haven't seen during the past few days, because you'll enjoy having a good chat about what's been happening. Once your social duties are out of the way you'll love curling up on the sofa with a good book or a favourite film.
