I was leaving my daughter's school when the shot's were fired. We were on the side walk. I've never been in the middle of gun fire before. Every day I pass this house I see the gang memebrs sitting on the front lawn. Police need to crack down on these gangs and get them off our streets. Especially away from our school and day cares. My daughter has talked of nothing else but this shooting. I just hope they catch the guy who shot this kid and put him away for life. This happened in daylight...we never know when things like this will happen. we all need to be more aware of our surroundings.

My son attends the preschool 2 doors away from where the shooting occured. Shots were heard by all of the children there, and it was very scary for them. There were tons of police there within minutes. They did a wonderful job of protecting the children there.

Me and my daughter were on the sidewalk walking to our car when the shots were fired. We were so close to this shooting. It happened in day light. We never know when these kind of things are going to happen. The police need to crack down on gang activity in san pedro...everywhere for that matter. Every day when i go to pick up my daughter from school i see the gang memebers hanging out on the lawn of this house. Its too close to my daughters school. Im worried that more shootings will happen at this house, especially since there has been no arrest. Law enforcement needs to wake up and help us out. Stop setting drivers up with 6ft tall bunny rabbits crossing intersections trying to give everyone tickets and do your real jobs and get these guns and gangs off the streets.

My son goes to school right down the street from where this happened. He heard the gun shots. He is now afraid to go to school in fear of the guns. These gang members really need to be cracked down on. Come on now, right next to a school. What kind of morals do these thugs have? It's pretty upsetting, that my 4-year-old is now afraid of school, the one place he is supposed to feel safe at, because of this stuff.

I hope this will be a wake up call to Janice Hahn that something really needs to be done about the homeland terriorist we have in our own city. These "gangbanger" or wanna be gangbangers need to be dealt with before things get worse.
If you look at the crime reports listed on Thurs, you'll see that there are alot of shot fired, aggravated assults, break in, & robberies happening in out town. All that, plus the graffiti, it's hard to think that things will ever get better.
I hope so, but I'm doubtful.

GANG VIOLENCE
Myth: Gang killings in Los Angeles County are the result of drug wars.
Fact: Most gang homicides are not random, nor are they only disputes over drugs or some other crime. The vast majority of violent incidents involving gang members continue to result from fights over turf, status, and revenge.
Myth: Gangs are only an inner city problem.
Fact: Different types of cities (urban, suburban, etc) in Los Angeles County have local street gangs. While a majority of the gang related slayings were in the urban core, in the San Fernando Valley, the murder rate spiked 60% in 2001 because of gang related killings.
Streetgangs.com , 2002
Myth: Los Angeles is the gang capital of the world and will never again be a place to raise children and live a civilized life.
Fact: Over the last several hundred years, a number of cities in the world have been proclaimed the "gang capital". London, England, was first given this title. Just before our civil war, New York was reported to have approximately 30,000 street gang members. At other times, Philadelphia and Chicago were proclaimed gang capitals. All of these cities, with degrees of success, have dealt with the problem and passed the title on to other cities.
Myth: Youth join gangs to sell drugs, commit crime, and make money.
Fact: Youth join gangs for many reasons. However, while gang members commit more types of crime (and more often) than non-gang youth, many gang members are not heavily involved in crime. Most gang members are not drug dealers and most Los Angeles gangs are not organized drug distribution rings.
Myth: Gangs are tightly organized, cohesive units with stable powerful leadership.
Fact: Most gangs are loosely knit, with several members who fill leadership roles, depending on age and situation. Membership fluctuates and gang members have varying degrees of commitment to the gang. Gang cohesiveness is highest when the gang is challenged by other groups or by outsiders.
Myth: Ever since there have been street gangs there have been drive by shootings. Guns don’t kill people; people kill people.
Fact: Shootings by gang members have increased as guns on the streets have proliferated. Drive-by killings are a direct result of the availability of firearms. People injure people; guns kill people.
Myth: Gang violence has increased consistently for the last 15 years.
Fact: This myth is incomplete. Gang violence started to decrease 15 years ago, but in the last seven years, began to increase again in Los Angeles. There were 256 gang homicides in LA City from January to August 2002. This is a 22% increase from the same time period in 2001, and a 47% increase from the 5-year average for those months. LAPD, Citywide Gang Crime Summary, 2002
Myth: Gang violence is purely a law enforcement problem.
Fact: Most law enforcement officials agree that gangs are a community problem that must be dealt with in a variety of approaches implemented by police, schools, community-based organizations, public health professionals and others in an interactive and cooperative approach to gang prevention and intervention.
Other Facts:
In Los Angeles County, law enforcement officials are aware of more than 1300 street gangs with over 150,000 members. In the City of Los Angeles alone, there are approximately 407 gangs and over 56,000 members.
Los Angeles Almanac, 2002
Gangs account for approximately 51% of all homicides in Los Angeles County. Of the 1156 homicides in 2001, 587 were gang-related. The majority of all gang homicides are committed with handguns.
Los Angeles County Safe Streets Bureau, 2002

It's going to be a long, hot and deadly summer in SoCal. The teenage gangs have been allowed to spread from the Mexican Border to San Francisco. The majority are the children of undocumented migrants. The Los Angeles Times has stories in the paper about the necessity for children to play on rooftops because the streets are so dangerous. The parks are being "hardened" against shootings with earthen berms. "JAVI from Gardena" posts on this forum a message to the deceased victim of this shooting as if it's just a text message from the living to the dead. RIP, Man! Cool! See you on the other side, Dude!"

You "Law Abiding Citizens" just don't get it! Children do not have civil rights! They do not have a right to a gun! They do not have a right to a car to drive by in and shoot at people to initiate themselves into their punky gangs. You're letting these children take over the streets because you don't want to "offend" anyone, and yet, murder is about as offensive as it gets.

It's too late. Americans have left their back door open for too long and have let the dirt-floor, Third World into the country to pollute our streets with their primitive tribal violence. Arnold, Villaraigosa, Del Gadillo and Bratton, can't fix it because they, and you, are all part of the problem.

WHY WHY WHY...unless im uneducated...was this child taken to Harbor UCLA down the fwy for medical care when the shooting took place blocks from San Pedro Hospital??? As tragic as this all is, if he was in a gang or had gang ties, he was at risk. This is all so unfortunate. And I think the preschool needs to contact Harbor Division to ask counselors to come talk with the kids to help them with any fear or anxiety over the shooting.

Hmmm, at about the same time me and my homies was chillin here in PV, kickin back with a few Smart Waters, watching the pretty lady on her horse while our kids played soccer on the rolling green lawns of our local park, thinking of our next BBQ at the Kramer Club and wondering just how far the stock market will drop. Live in the ghetto, play by the ghetto's rules.

I work for the los angeles Unified School District. With the counseling division. i see these kind of things happening every day. All my daughter has been talking about is this shooting. She was worried to even go back to school today at this day care that is only a few feet from the shooting. She woke up this morning asking if there were gonna be more shots fired today. Because this day care is not affiliated with LAUSD our crisis team cannot provide services for them but i know the director of the preschool well and she has said that they will talk to the children that were there during the shooting. If there are any LCSW'S or MSW's reading these post it would be nice if you'd volunteer an hour or two of your time to go n speak with our kids. They do need help in dealing with this trauma.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Gemini

If you're currently keeping something secret it will really start to prey on your mind today and you'll worry about blurting it out at the wrong moment. It's one of those days in which you're absent-minded and completely wrapped up in your own thoughts. As a result, it will be hard to concentrate on anything else and this won't go down well in certain quarters.
