Watsonville is a very safe place to visit. In my 23 years of being a resident, I have never had a problem, know anyone who had a confrontation with violence, and as far as I know, we have never had an out of town guest come to Watsonville and be assualted or killed. I have also lived in Santa Cruz and felt much less safe. I walk at night and early morning with no worries. So, your comments make no sense whatsoever.

2 Strawberry Festivals? How pathetic! What is the City Council trying to prove? This is not what collaboration is all about. If my City Council can't even find a way to work out a difference with a lone promoter, what does that say about their leadership? I commend Nancy Bilicich, although I don't often agree with her position, for standing up for what is right. The Council majority should be ashamed, Watsonville will be a laughing stock.

Sometimes you have to stick your neck out and take a chance to get what you want. Sure, you might get your head handed to you but even that's better than rolling over and letting others make your decisions for you.

Wishing you the best neighbor city.

So Watsonville got it's feelings hurt. Two strawberry festivals on the same weekend is just plain dumb. I bet there isn't a single strawberry farm within the City of Watsonville, and most of the processing plants are in the county as well aren't they? Most of the worker's certainly may live in Watsonville but strawberries, and the promotion of them, should be a county-wide event held at the fairgrounds. Much nicer facilities, lots of parking, less gang members prowling around

Yeah, move it back downtown so the city can inflate the crowd figures (due to having no admission entrance) and then underreport city expenses to create a phantom profit. And why are councilman Bersamin and mayor Rivas obsessing on the promoter being from Modesto? Do they have a problem taking advice from a redneck?

And your point is??? I assume you are inferring that she is overcompensated? Ms. Espinosa is the department head! Do you realize how much work and responsibility this position entails, especially in these times?$132,330 (soon to be knocked down to $119,097). By traditional economic measurements (3 X her salary), she can afford a $357,291 house!

One. Peterson deserves to lose his shirt. Imagine the county hired a promoter to put on the county fair and he moved the location to San Jose because there's better facilities and more people? It's a community event for Watsonville.

Two. Gangs gangs gangs, illegals illegals illegals, sanctuary blah blah blah. OK, we get that you really really don't like Watsonville. We hope you enjoy your bitterness. But srsly, no one's listening to you but you.

Three. Bold, inspiring move, WCC. Like what One Way said, better to take it in your own hands. That's the best message you could have sent about Watsonville. Wish you the best.

I guess my family now knows which event we will be going to. And it won't be the downtown one! The Watsonville City Council is going to hold this event downtown to "teach the Modesto guy a lesson", but it's going to backfire. His event is going to rule out and their's will be attended, but they aren't going to make any money off of it. Some lessons are hard to learn.

I just can't get over how stupid the Watsonville City Council is. I have a low opinion of politicians, but this council redefines stupidity. My mind is boggled.

This is good my fellow residents! We actually have a choice here....Hmmmmmmm, a downton festival (closer proximity to most gang members, anyone can waltz in and stab you) or the fairgrounds?(much nicer, cost to park and get in, a place where security will keep out all the thugs)....

I will see you all at the fairgrounds!

Huh? The Santa Cruz county fairgrounds are in Watsonville....a few miles from Ramsey park. Your overly melodramatic victim analogy is not even close to reflecting reality...it's pathetic.

Bersamin-

I have more contempt for the guy from Modesto, an American and a California, than I do for the illegals who shouldn't be in the country to begin with.

I guess it is evil to want to make a profit on a Strawberry Festival but not so evil to exploit foreign workers for profit.

And where does the City of Watsonville think that it is going to get the money to stage this? Are they thinking that it won't take much to do this?

Daily Horoscope for November 26

Sagittarius

The mood is considerably lighter as the Moon enters Aries and your fifth house of romance and creativity today; plan to enjoy a good time tonight. Make a play date with your inner child and forget about all your responsibilities for a few hours; you've been working hard and deserve time off for good behaviour. Just remember, no drinking and driving... hire a cab if you plan to go out for the evening.
