Annie wrote: Are you people for real?! You're passing judgment on people because of the color of their skin and their financial circumstances. Brilliant! Can I assume the racist comments are made by white people? More specifically, white men? Hmmm, could be an accurate assumption...maybe not, but probably is. You better hope You're not judged by the color of Your skin! There are plenty of negative, white stereotypes, and you people are confirming them! I'm sure none of you even care, so why did I waste my time writing? If you can't handle our colorful Bay Area, please go live somewhere else!! It's negative, heartless people like you that make me ashamed that I'm a white person! There is no evidence at all to back up what the original poster said. If it really happened (which I doubt!) we don't know the police officer's side of the story. As one subsequent poster pointed out there is a big contradiction as to how the San Leandro police cars are equipped. In other words this story is most likely BS! Any excuse to scream "RACIST!" you know...just as you are doing with your post! Nobody is judging anybody by the color of their skin but they are saying the color of your skin does not give you the right to do things that are against the law. Since one certain race is responsible for about 90 per cent of the crime in San Leandro might the police (and us all!) be a little more suspicious of people of that race at times, especially when they appear to be up to no good? I suppose so! The San Leandro police actually have an excellent record in dealing with minorities and receive very few complaints to the contrary! Frankly you should be more ashamed that you are a ultra liberal fool than you are white! Why don't you take a walk at night in the Ashland area or in a neighborhood with predominately Section 8 housing. Maybe after you are mugged or raped you might become a little more "negative and heartless" yourself!

However, you statement about section 8 housing bothers me. Just because you are on this program does not mean you are a mugger or rapist. Section 8 has strick rules and you cannot commit a felony and be on this program. Where do you get this information that section 8 is causing problems. There are no signs in front of houses saying I am on section 8. Low income housing? I would like to see just one of the people who complain about section 8 go through the yearly and simi yearly inspections. Section 8 is monitored and you better do everything right or you are history! Most of the persons who violate this program are turned in and lose the program. It is not Section 8 or the families who desperatly need it who violate the program. I know I was once on section 8 and was able to get back on my feet and return to work.

You don't know what you are talking about! I've been a landlord as well as an apartment manager and currently live near 3 apartment complexes that have gone primarily Section 8 tenants in San Leandro. I'm not saying everyone abuses their status of being on the public dole but a great many of the Section 8 tenants do just that! I walk down the street in the morning and see broken liquor bottles, used condoms, all sorts of garbage on streets that used to be clean before these Section 8'ers moved in. The cops are constantly being called to these places, especially on weekend nights to handle unruly Section 8 tenants and criminal activity. I barely feel safe in the daytime in my neighborhood, no way would I walk this street at night. A blind man was mugged right on the corner. Big increase in burglary, robbery, other crimes reckless driving, loud, trashy music from homes as well as cars, screaming and shouting at all hours of day and night...I could go on forever! Oh yeah...great neighbors these Section 8'ers make! Everybody has a horror story about Section 8 tenants! When they leave rental properties they are usually trashed beyond belief! Horrible tenants and horrible neighbors! Some people apparently can't behave no matter where they live and regardless of who is subsidizing their rent (us taxpayers by the way!). There is also tons of evidence that show great abuse in the system too! I couldn't care less who lives next to me or in my neighborhood! I do expect them to behave civilly and within the law though. Apparently that is too much to ask in some people's opinion!

I can only speak for myself. Section 8 also pays a fee if the apartments are left bad. If that is the case I would think section 8 would no longer rent to the people you are talking about. This is very sad because there are many folks in bad shape who need to have housing. It is a shame this is not being monitored by the Section 8 Office. Has anyone tried to turn them in in your area. They have to come out and monitor the infractions. Where I was living that was the case. I feel very sad and hope you follow up with the Housing Authority in that area. It helps all section 8 folks because with this bad experience no one will rent to section 8 people. Its bad all the way around.

I can only echo what Trent said about people abusing the Section 8 rental assistance program. It's not only in urban areas either. I recently had to move out of a house we had bought brand new only 3 years ago in Elk Grove CA (near Sacramento). Our formerly nice neighborhood was totally ruined by a big influx of Section 8 people. After we got burglarized twice in a matter of 3 months and I got sick of the loud noises (blaring car stereos, screaming arguments, etc.), reckless driving and just plain rude and obnoxious behavior I said enough is enough and moved into a gated community in Walnut Creek. These are the people who say "it''s all about respect!". Uh huh! Yeah right! I do realize it's not everyone on Section 8 is acting like barbarians but a sizable minority are doing just that and as a hard working taxpayer and good citizen I'm outraged and disgusted!

Annie you are SPOT ON with your comment...
I am sitting here with my jaw to the floor because i cannot believe the level of ignorance displayed in this thread... and all off of one person's question. This has been turned into a bashing session!!! Every and i mean EVERY race has their issues... it's not for you to blame the problems of the world on one or another...
I completely concur with Annie... If you guys don't like the diversity in the BAY AREA then you definitely need to move!!

We all have a right to live in relatively safe and crime free neighborhoods. This has nothing to do with diversity. Don't tell US to move! We couldn't care less what your race is but we do expect you to behave with civility and respect for your neighbors or YOU are the ones who definitely need to move! Certain races are responsible for WAY more than their share of crime and if you think you can shove that under the rug by pulling out the old "R" card and shifting the blame you have another thing coming! In other words shove it up your ass!

Come down in the flatlands of Oakland or Richmond to live if you really believe in "diversity" so much! Just remember to get some life insurance, put bars on your windows and not go out on the street after dark! I'm sure you have lots of "diversity" in the Yuppie mostly all white community of Sunnyvale though! Just another white wine liberal with his head buried up his wazoo!
