SADVC building gets fresh coat

Full story: Daily Democrat

Woodland's historic Maxwell School began undergoing a facelift Saturday thanks to the efforts of Brooks Painting, which selected to assist the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center this year as part of its $10,000 Charity Give-Away. This is the third year that Brooks, owned by Jeremy Brooks, has dedicated its services for a local nonprofit.

If you donate monies to this project you are donating to Dowlings new office buildings. Police Chief Sullivan put together this sweet deal for Dan Dowling to he could avoid taxes.

What they won't tell you is that it was recently discovered that Dowling still owns this building through a side agreement to the deed. It just gives me the creeps hearing Sullivan beg for money knowing that this is all a big fake.

Isn't Sullivan supposed to uphold truth and justice or some such thing?

Can you document any of these allegations? Can you post them to Woodland Journal, Woodland Record or Daily Democrat? I'll give you 5 business days to "put up" or "shut up".

I have heard this as well and I too would like to see documentation. If it is a non profit they must disclose this. By means of a records request. Pretty simple to do.

The bigger issue a hand is. Did Carey Sullivan ask for any money on city time and using city email and city phones, also did Carey Sullivan do so knowing that the property reverts back to Dowling? Which would be another legal tax issue. Has the city spent any money on this project which if it reverts back to dowling would then be another violation. Then there is the public trust as a city official possibly misleading others. I would bet any emails or other documents are now looking to be destroyed. If so that would show a pattern of trying to cover it up.

I for one as others would like to know the truth. The Daily Democrat will never take tha challenge they don't have the staff to do it and the editor is to in bed with Sullivan that won't happen. So who is it left up to someone that can locate the documents and expose this if it is in fact true.

I don't care how they got the money provided they didn't do something illegal to get it. It's about time that eyesore building got some exterior improvement. Someone does something nice and once again, everyone complains. I agree, prove your allegations or shut up!

Years ago I remember when the yolo co. schools vacated that building, the story was about the building being a health hasard( aspestose?). Paint will only cover-up cancer. None profit? That's just a accounting practice. Someone is making money on this one.

Having a property near that location I'm ready for the energy to spread. I'm looking forward to the "equity builder for that neighborhood" and that "hood" is actually not too bad aside from the realtor's son. His house continually has police activity. Makes for an interesting afternoon/evening sometimes.

Everyone is so ridiculous. These people try to do something nice and they get blasted in print, accusations fly, name calling begins, comments about the hood and those living in that area begin. Everyone behaves cruelly and child-like because they can hide behind a fake name and probably all the while reading their Bibles at night and quoting Scriptures.

What is this world coming to?

To Brooks Painting - what you have done will be well appreciated I'm sure. Not only by SADVC but by those who own property in that area because, yes, any improvements on that building is an improvement to their property and there is nothing wrong with that. You are to be commended for doing good for the community because that is what "community" is all about. Thank you.

So long as Mr.Sullivan informed the donors that Mr.Dowling was a co owner and beneficiary and that the IRS may not allow full credit on the gift since Mr. Dowling is not a charity then there is no issue here. If he did not disclose then they may have Benny Iinduced under false pretense if Sullivan knew about Dowlings interest.

Why a police chief is involved seems strange use of taxpayer dollars.

Anyone member of the board of directors who might in any way benefit financially by enhancing the value of the property must be considered as doing more than "honest volunteering."

Mrs. Dowling loses credibility in my book as does anyone else on the board.

Who is on the SADVC board?

SADVC is a great cause. This is one of the oldest tricks in the developers handbook for failed ventures.

Mr. Sullivan was going around asking local service clubs for money for this building. If Mr. Dowling still owns any part of it, then I think Mr. Sullivan acted wrongly when he wore his police uniform and asked local businesses and clubs for donations.

Wouldn't we all like to have a police chief asking for money for our favorite charities while at the same time helping to increase the value of our own personal real estate investments?

If this is the case then the SADVC board is either really incompetent, or in cahoots.

The IRS looks for "Deceptive Contract Methods" so a contract subsequent to a deed would be of interest to the IRS.

Either way a police chief should not be involved in any of this and if he conducted himself on taxpayer time, even for 5 mintues, he is just an idiot.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Leo

The atmosphere is highly combustible today, with people getting in a stew over the smallest little thing. You will also have a tendency to get hot under the collar, especially if someone isn't doing things as quickly as you'd like. Try to stop yourself getting in a rage because once that happens it will be difficult to cool down again. Maybe you need some fresh air?
