Oh dear, poor people living a few hundred yards from us! We all know poor people want to steal our stuff and drug our kids. They can work for us at a daily wage that wouldn't pay for a dinner out, but we want them to live somewhere else.

Big Bear is a beautiful area. It is only for the wealthy who can afford to live there. I guess they expect the poor folks to commute from the flatlands.

Have you heard what an environmentalist is? A retired developer. He doesn't want to live near the crap he developed at obscene profits.

If they are poor, why would you wire these future slums with cable TV and high-speed internet? Both these services cost additional money, but they aren't a necessity. If you're on Section 8, there are some things you should not be allowed to have, like an internet connection (use a library!), cable tv and luxury cars.

The narcissist city council took millions of dollars of grant money blew it on wasted projects and brass plaques for their names so now they have to follow the rules of the money. Big Bear offers very few jobs and employment so no hope of advancement. Many empty rental homes on the market already with a lot cheaper rents than in the story the construction is 3 times the cost of building homes. Some people are saying kickbacks to the council with National Core involved.

Cable & internet are requirements now? I thought these were luxuries, especially for those on limited incomes. We all know working people who can't afford these things. It's amazing how much these individuals can readjust their priorities when needed. Sorry. Because of the qualifications necessary for getting into these dwellings, there should be no cable, internet, or other unnecessary item in the deal. Spartan conditions should prevail. The incentive should be to be motivated to eventually leave these digs into better ones. Sounds to me like those that are low income, unemployed (or unemployable) plan to stay forever in these digs. History validates the concern of the community about the onset of problems with these kinds of projects.

Hey moron, internet access is a necessity if our children are going to be able to compete in the real world! Many homework assignments require internet access today. Try getting away from your racist attitudes and get back to reality.

One HUGE problem here in Big Bear is that there are not any jobs for these folks. Many of us have lost our jobs because the economy is bad and many of our small businesses are closing. Even in the best of times, this is a small community with a limited number of jobs. Also contrary to what Bill Fowler said, we are NOT a wealthy community made up only of people who have lots of money. The majority of folks here are living below the poverty level! Don't judge the community by the appearance of some of the large homes you see here. Foreclosures are at an all time high, my neighborhood is full of empty homes, a family can rent one of these brand new homes for around $1,000! I think it is wrong to build this and concentrate a lot of unemployed folks with nothing to do in the area that attracts tourists. Tourism is our ONLY industry!

Sounds like "section 8 Raul" is getting his panties in a bunch because he doesn't want to lose his luxuries. Don't worry, they'll be there waiting for you and your anchor babies, all 12 of them, when you move to Big Bear.

Poor people suck; get a job, don't be lazy, stop coming up with excuses not to better your life and stop wanting everyone to subside your life.

Why not fool? You can't be prejudiced against people just because they have less money than you. This is America, remember?

FYI: I am a former national award-winning newspaper journalist who became disabled this year. I don't do drugs, don't drink, and have lived in Big Bear.
That said, I would like to live there again but my income is extremely limited and I am seeking low income housing.
I believe that I would be a great neighbor and an asset to the community of Big Bear.
Please relize that not all people seeking low income housing are uneducated criminals who would distroy the community.
P.S. Those who believe that Internet conectivety is not neccessary in this day and age, must be over 60 years old with limited exposure to TODAY'S real world circumstances.

Did you know that they are also trying to build public housing on oceanfront properties? They bring these poverty stricken low class criminals into wealthy areas once reserved only for the well off!
