I'm giving it a rave review

Full story: San Bernardino County Sun

I managed to infiltrate the midnight world of modern rave culture. I experienced first-hand the extreme sights and sounds of those gatherings that have struck such terror into the hearts of parents and community leaders.

Yes, we all remember those wild and crazy concerts at NOS Swing Auditorium....and, John, remember those concerts were inside the auditorium....there weren't 50,000 people there and there wasn't deafening, thumping noise that carried into homes blocks, even miles away from the Orange Show grounds.....and I don't remember LSD, Ectasy and other drugs being available for sale and use in open view with the so-called security folks observing.....just so you know, it is possible to have fun without all the criminality that raves bring to local venues.

theres crime everywhere man, no matter what happens, where it is, or whats going on....in a gathering of 50,000 people....theres bound to be someone gettin arrested or something, and i may not be old enough know much about the concerts when The Doors and Jimi Hendrix played, since i wasnt alive yet hahaha but...The Doors and Jimi Hendrix both played Psychadelic music that was ment to enhance or recreate the LSD experience, and i can tell u that many a time, Jimi Hendrix went out on stage playing...while on LSD....there were concerts were there would be people with jars full of hits of LSD and people would just take handufuls of em...this when it was still legal of course, but the fact remains....in those times...everyone was on LSD...no one had any real problems with it...so if people are gonna take drugs today...why is it not ok if it was ok back when it was legal?...is it just because its illegal? after all....LSD and Ecstasy are far safer and "better" for the mind and body then Alcohol and Tobacco....which are legal and kill more people than all illegal drugs combined

" In spite of my grizzled visage, I had to show my ID before I could buy a beer. "
sure is easy to be objective after having a few beers .this "reporter" lost all credibility in my eyes at least after he admitted to have experienced the event "under the influence" .

Wow, 60 something droll 'investigating' raves? This is STALKING! Glowing reviews only in San Bernardino newspaper as hundreds of Ecstasy-imbibed youths ($20 a pop, plus $30 for oxy to mellow out later) are forever psychically altered, no, John, not by fun-dancing,''some even asked me!" (11 yr. old with bit in mouth). Unreal, fire this self-indulgent pre-pubescent pervert because soon he'll be trying to legalize kiddy-porn (where many lost souls end up after a lost night). Go hang around with John Edwards?

I applaud your article wholw heartetly!

I am Very Happy that you had a wonderfulltime at Noctrnal.

I myself have attended 6 or more of the Nocturnal Yearly Events, and I had such a good time in the company of my friends both party goers and Professional Artists!

Kudos to a positive article on Such Music Festivals!

Its about time some one in the Editorial Community, shed true light from within the Venue rather than just the "Neighbors Complaints".

Hope to see you at the Next!

Merely reading all this bad grammar is proof enough that psychedelic drugs do in fact harm brain cells.

Are you kidding me Mr.John Weeks, Staff Writer,
You don't understand the lifestyle these little kids are living. They spend all and more of there money on Party's and drugs every weekend. Sure maybe if you go to one rave its fun and harmeless, but these kids go every weekend ok not every kid goes every weekend but most try to go every weekend. These kids go to on average 30 a year. These kids get in this life style deep and its very hard to get out of. The Hudson has Party's every Friday and Saturday of almost every weekend throughout the year. Maybe it was easy for a old man to go kick back and have a few beers and look at all the little girls in there bras and panties that could be fun but I'm betting you still felt a little dirty there. You did take into consideration this was a all age event and most of those kids (dressed like you saw) were there all night without adult supervision and probably without there parents knowledge. This is such a one sided article I'm thinking Mr.Weeks was talking to the promoter of this Party and maybe got paid off. Did you know there are more Raves in San Bernardino than any other city in the Country. That is nothing to be proud of San Bernardino. Its funny how Mr Weeks didn't even notice there was any kids on drugs only a cpl of whiffs of pot even that statement is unrealistic. Mr Weeks I'm glad you had the time of your life and maybe you are a responsible adult and can handle one of these party's but you have to think about all the kids you saw there they are not equipped to handle living that lifestyle.

I'm not sure but Even the kids must know that they are doing the wrong thing for themselves. They have to know they are loosing there hearing, loosing brain cells, and taking very un necessary chanced. I'm sure they know they feel very crappy for a few days after Rolling. Its just not worth it. Make Raves 18+ because if your over 18 and go then your just a dumb adult no better than the drunk at the bar. Kids are just caught up in this lifestyle that promotes drugs and freedom. The whole Rave lifestyle is designed to lure young kids in and keep them in.

I'm so glad to read something about the rave scene that is not just bashing on us by people who have never experienced a rave. Although this is not a real rave, it's a massive, I think it definately shows you what the scene is about, music, dancing, and just plainly having a good time. Kudos to you sir for writing this, I hope to see you at another rave soon. =)

Great article John! I'm glad you shed some true light on a scene that has been shown in a negative light for years...

I think that parents should be responsible for their own children. This is an all ages event, and personally I wouldn't mind seeing it becoming an 18 and up event, but it is THE PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY to know where their children are at and what they are doing...

Sure there is drug use at these events, but by no means is everyone strung out on drugs. I know many people who love the scene and have been to many events and stayed 100% sober, many people who go and just drink alcohol, which in my opinion can be just as bad if not worse than many drugs.

objective reporting, "Merely reading all this bad grammar is proof enough that psychedelic drugs do in fact harm brain cells."

What a great post! DID YOU THINK OF THAT ALL BY YOURSELF?! U R MAI IDLE!

Overall, I feel that parents should take more responsibility for their children rather than placing the blame on promoters. If you can't trust your child, then place stricter restrictions on them...
bravo sir

finally, someone who isn't out to get us. i was at nocturnal and i was sober the whole night. in fact, every rave i attend im completely sober at. people are so ignorant associating drugs and bad behaviors with raves. guess what people, bad shit happens EVERYWHERE. all were trying to do, is listen to the music we love, meet new people who enjoy the same things as us and HAVE FUN. yes, there is drug use at raves, but there's also drug use everywhere. people stereotype ravers so much. one person does something bad at a rave, or dresses skanky and oh, every person who raves must me like that. well guess what, more than half of us are not. people need to open there eyes, and stop judging us on something they really know nothing about.

I had an equally good time. For me massives(Nocturnal and upcoming Monster ) and raves are about the people and the music. You should generate good vibes as well as accept them., It wasn't a difficult thing to do at this event. I've already commended the production company on the excellent planning and execution, and in the end, at least for me, its the people who make or break an event. I can have a good time even when I don't like the music or sound engineer messed up and the speakers are blown. As long as the people are good natured, I will remember it as a positive experience.

Events such as Nocturnal are exemplify how things should be. There will always be dealers who see attendess as walking dollars signs, ravers who don't drink enough water, drug users who don't respect their limits, and other negative influences. But, to be honest. I didn't feel any of that at Nocturnal., just happy, helpful people who helped with directions, enjoyed my light shows, offered me water so I wouldn't have to leave to get some, and overrally contributed to the event with dancing, imaginative outfits, and overall positive attitudes.

Btw, don't assume attendees are all kids, some of us are laureated professionals making 6 figure incomes who can see past the smokescreen mad of BS that the whiners attempt to throw up because we've been there, and we know the truth.

Who knows, you may just be complaining about the event that your boss attended. xD
