This rail system promotes economic development instead of just staying in the old ways we are now. If Japan and Europe have high speed rail and we are one of the leading countries of the world we should be able to develop high speed rail systems. Even if the train stops at locations such as Pueblo and Colorado Springs that is just more locations we can take advantage of. This train could promote tourism to El Paso and also ease the commute to El Paso from Las Cruces and vice versa. I would love to take a train all the way to Denver. I recently moved here and I hear far too many negative comments on the city, I love it here so far. I've lived in Kentucky too long to believe all this nonsense about El Paso not being "progressive" enough! I have no options here in this city for a masters degree, so a train to ABQ would help me out a lot!

This would be a slam dunk for illegals to have a bee line to middle America - don't think so. Not only will it never happen - it will NEVER happen. Is there any real logic other than spending and spinning taxpayer dollars? Please, can we get some sanity in our leadership!?!

I hope they accept food stamps and give all illegals free rides at taxpayers expense - what a great deal that would be. Free meals, bed and breakfast fast train out of town. Transient express.

This story is about something that will benefit the community of El Paso as a city and pessimist racist ignorant people like you two commenting here always have to put a dent in any situation. Believe what you want... Illegals are the root of all problems everywhere, to include you not being able to spell "Al Qaeda" correctly... Somewhere, an illegal took your spot at a good school, and you didn't get the proper education that you so desperately need...

This would be a great opportunity for El Paso! However, the typical pessimists like George and Mario continue to drag El Paso down. That is the reason that the rest of Texas and the nation consider El Paso, a second-rate city and doesn’t take it seriously.
I was born and raised in El Paso, and for those 50 years I have seen one good project after another get torn down by the George’s and Mario’s of this city. It’s pathetic and sad. I’m just glad to see that there are some people that believe in El Paso and its potential to become and be a major contributor to the future of the state and the nation.
I rather see the George’s and the Mario’s of El Paso would move out instead of the bright and educated young people who don’t see a future in El Paso because of the continued pessimism individuals project.

Do you really believe that our comments are what make people consider El Paso a second rate city! Really? How about the fact that you condone and protect illegal aliens here, your city is, and always has been, filthy, your mayor is as crooked as they come, your police department if full of incompetent, lazy anchor babies... I could go on and on with the piece of s.h.i.t. extension of Juarez. I only stay because the military makes me. I will be leaving soon, and hopefully will never come back. However, even if people like Mario and I leave, this city is, and will always be, considered a second-rate city. Electric train or not...

George it seems like I hit a raw nerve. Apparently El Paso has caused you so much mental anguish that the United States Army might see fit to grant you a Section 8 and you can make your departure sooner than later.
Nevertheless, let me be the first to say,“Adios”!

George,it is sad that you have a negative feeling about El Paso.I can understand. For the last 20 years it has catered to the benefit of the illegals. And then look who the politicians are.Downtown has become so trashy. And the bus and train depot don`t make me want to visit again. These are the areas that should be kept up to par.Anyway, you will come back even if it is to see whether El Paso got the rail system.Or maybe even for a piece of azz.I bet there were no complaints there.Enjoy the rest of your tour of duty and MAY GOD keep you safe.Good luck.

Absolutely Yes This would be a fabulous addition to our city. More so considering the state of our air transportation at this point in time.

Please, this issue is just gonna fizzle out like everything that is proposed in el paso. I can hear council whinning, it's too expensive, we don't have the resources or were gonna postpone it for later. Blah blah blah. Or it'll get started and take 50years to finish. How long has EL Paso been working on 6 MILES of HWY54? Fix I-10 first idiots!!! Fix EL Paso first!!!!!

If Richardson can pull this off, maybe El Paso will belong somewhere and its citizens can travel out of the area without a car and without having to sit at a terminal for hours waiting for a connection. It would be great for tourism - if El Paso can get its act together and advertise something that would attract people from Denver, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and even Las Cruces. This area is filled with history. The Generals just ain't gonna do it. I hate to classify myself as pessamistic, but more down the lines as realistic(with many years experience). We have had Amtrac for years, but nobody would use it. We have has Greyhound buses for years, as well as Continental Trailways buses. Now how many of you people think hi-speed trains are going to actually be used. It's just 'another big Government expense(our tax dollars) that we do not need. The United States is in a Recession almost a Depression. So dream on people!!! Count me out and totally against this!! When we get to the point we can recover and feed the poor/dying/homeless people in the States/City's, etc. We do not need this at all.

We have had rail road tracks 'everywhere' across Texas, and the 'whole' United States since the middle/late 1800's, what is new about rail passenger service, hi-speed or not??? Back-to-the-future?????? Study your History. We've also had airplanes since Wilbur and Orville Wright, and automobiles since before Henry Ford's first Model T.
