Pizza for some reason has eluded the San Antonio culinistas. They’re just not enough real pizza places. Although Furio’s in Lincoln Heights off of Broadway is pretty delicious, but they keep odd hours.

My pizza tastes were developed in Southern California, so if you’re looking for authentic east-coast New York style pie, I’m afraid your out of luck. Hey, there’s always Bar-B-Q!

I consider myself a pizza expert, haha.
Not considering the chains, I've tried about 5 different pizza places in town & so far Goombas wins.
Other places I've tried:
Volare - pretty decent
Rome's - don't recommend it
Trilogy - ok but not good 2nd day
Dough's (which is good italian-style, not american)

I've heard good things about a little pizza place near the Blanco Cafe (inside the loop) but don't remember the name of it.

What other ones are there?

Naples Pizza in Boerne is the best in Texas. New York style Pizza at it's best.

Best Pizza in town? Take a 2 mile ride or closer to your nearest H-E-B. Take a stroll down the freezer aisle where you'll see a sign "Frozen Pizza" and look for Freshchetta's gourmet pizza that comes pre-sliced. It's better than anything SA has to offer for pizza. I am not kidding.

I went to a well know and reccomended pizza place called the purple garlic in Sa and it wasn't very good at all. The sauce was too acidic (needed sugar) and the criust tasted like an elios pizza.

I've tried 3 pizza places here and so far they are all bad.
