I have fond memories of Victoria Courts. I dont how long we waited to get moved in, nor what year, but I would guess around 1940 or '41. We lived at 116 Lindsay Walk. As a child we walked or rode bikes everywhere, except downtown to sell newspapers or shine shoes. In summers, my brother and I, the I cut many a lawn and trimmed many hedges in the courts, because every yard had them ! Our sister helped mom taking in washing & ironing also. Mom was a widow receiving welfare of $45 a month, rent there was $41, so we kids worked at whatever. My mom re-married around 1944. We left the courts after my JR year at Brackenridge, moving to Devine, from where by then I was the only chid left home. I joined the Navy at 17 in 1951. Sadly, I have returned several times over the years watching the courts deteriate. I walked to Bonham Elem. and Page Jr High, then Brackenridge. We were poor, but since everyone else was poor as well, we never noticed, really. Life moves on I suppose, and it is what we make of it. Thanks
